How farking hard is it to do a little research? I can't stand it when FHs are all "oh don't bother with the NT, they can't tell you anything and only people who really love abortion get it." These jerks are spreading wrong medical information to someone who was asking a legit question about the necessisity of these tests, and doing a lot of harm, in my opinion.
The NT is a critically important diagnostic tool, you don't know WHAT you would do when you are sitting in a stupid chair with gel on your belly and a doctor coldly telling you your baby is going to die, and NO you don't need prior history of risk factors for something to go wrong.
And maybe you would decide to go forward, even in the face of your child's certain death. That is certainly a personal decision, and a right one if it feels right to you and your partner. But you need to do the test to have the information. And when you are faced with that certain death, all of your previous certainties about what you would do can change in a moment.
Believe me, I should know.
Bah. Time for a little Irish in my coffee.

Ok, I edited this into an informative post & put it over on the fertiles board...
I think you all know how I feel about this...
Shame on them...
I guess I'm considered high risk at 38 so I definitely will be having the NT scan. I had it scheduled with my first, but unfortunately didn't make it that far. I think there is absolutely no way you can say what your decision would be until you are faced with the facts. I would love to say that I would never terminate, but of course that's completely impossible to say without knowing the situation. I would never, ever judge a person when faced with having to make that decision.
I also think the poster that said that scan is only to decide whether to terminate is a complete moron. How uninformed can you be?
My anger towards this comes from getting to know your story & so many others on the board. I used to be one of them....naively thinking that "I'm young, I'm sure my baby doesn't have DS, and I wouldn't terminate anyway....I don't need that test". Blah, ignorance.
For me, I know that morally I could not terminate. We were told to with our son, and for us, it wasn't the right choice. Although, I know for others, it is.
With that being said, if something was going to be wrong with my baby, I want to know. I want to prepare myself for it, I want the proper people in the room upon delivery, I want medical staff to be prepared for our baby. I want my family to be prepared.
So, anyone that believes that the scan is just for the abortion happy is just an idiot who gets to live in the naive, it'll never happen to me land.
