NBR: Do you still use checks?

I feel like I am in the stone age ordering checks. Some of my bills I feel OK paying on line, but I have had payments not go through, and the company can't find my transaction anywhere (even with the #) when I paid online. Plus with day care or a baby sitter, I like having a paper trail where I know I paid the person. Do you still use paper checks, or do everything on line or with cash?

Re: NBR: Do you still use checks?

  • I keep paper checks just in case of emergencies, but for the most part, I either pay everything in cash, online or with our debit card.

  • I pay everything online with an electronic check or debit card.
  • I use checks! DH and I have tried to make several payments online and three of them so far have not gone through. It started to get really frustrating so I just pay for postage and send them out. Don't get me wrong.. I don't LIKE doing it...
  • I use cash, checks and credit all evenly, I think.

I still use checks for the rent, car insurance, water bill and to make random purchases that I want a paper trail for.

  • the only person i pay with a check is Ryan's nanny.
  • We still use checks on occasion - mostly for DS's daycare...otherwise everything is paid online.

I, too feel like I am in the stone age, but I would rather have a paper trail than not have something go thru.

  • I use checks for certain bills that I don't like to give my debit or credit card number too. Mainly the hospital, doctors offices and utilities.
  • i pay most bills online but i still use paper checks - giving gifts, paying my mom back for xmas presents for other ppl that she bought for me, etc.

This.  I used to be a personal banker (the person you open your account with) and I can't tell you the number of times I've had to try and track down an online payment, figure out why something was deducted twice, etc.  I like paper checks because I can prove it was cashed.

  • I only use checks for our rent. Everything else we pay is electronic.
  • I use checks for bills and important things. Debit card for groceries and other shopping purchases (gas etc). I rarely use cash.

    I don't use a credit card. I don't like them. Embarrassed

  • We have checks that we use for certain bills.  But the majority I pay online or with my bank's electronic bill pay option.

I seriously hate when people write checks at the grocery tho.  Or at say Michael's Crafts or Walgreens where they have to call over a manger and get the check approved.  All the while holding up the entire line for a total bill of like $10.  Drives.me.up.the.wall.
  • i use checks for all our bills.

  • Nope, unless it's something where they will only take a check (like our stupid childbirth classes or the local water company). We do all our bill pay online.

  • I haven't written a check in a LONG time.  The only time I see a check is when I receive one & take it to the bank to deposit.  I didn't know that people still wrote checks - Seems extremely outdated to me.  On line is the way to go.
  • I do most bills online, but use checks for rent. I write checks to myself sometimes if I want an amount or big bills that I can't get out of the ATM. I gave up using checks at any stores tho, it's too much hassle to "prove" who I am or whatever. Meanwhile I can swipe anybody's card and not be asked for proof that its mine.
