Contractions: one steady pain or a a series of jabs?

I am sitting here in misery, and I am wondering if its the continuation of my period-like cramps or if I am having some contractions.  I always imagined that each contraction would be one long builing and easing of pain.  But I have been getting a huge tigfhtening of my stomach and several peaks of pain in like a 60 second time period.  (It happened twice during one golden girl segment.)  I am going to try to time them, but I am not sure if what I will be timing is contractions...

Ugh, where is my childboirth class book when I need it?

The baby is kinda going nuts wit the tightening of my stomach too, which kinda freaks me out.  I will call if this continues, no worries!

March 21, I find out how far along we are. :)

    My contractions with DS were pitocin contractions, so I don't count those.  My contractions with DD were like you described.  They would start  like period cramps and sort of peak and then ease down again.  But everyone has a different way of describing them and how they feel.

    My contractions felt like tightening at the top of my belly, with intense back pain (i had back labor) more-so than period cramps.

    I believe I am having them now (hopefully!) my belly gets very tight while my lower back starts to cramp. Then my back gets much worse and "peaks" with pain and then it begins to subside. Man I hope these are real...mine are 7-10 mins apart now for the last hour.

    I have back pain too.  It just developed in the past 2 hours.  I'm just gonna chill out and see what happens.  That was pretty intense pain there for a bit.  Its wishful thinking, but here's hoping this is it!  

    MANDA:  Thats the best ICHC picture they've posted in weeks.  I love it!
