Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Bedding for "big girl" bed

We'll be moving DD to her "big girl" bed when she's about 20 months or so, in preparation for DD #2.  But, at this age, what kind of bedding do you use?  Do we get her a comforter and flat sheet?  Right now she just has a thin baby blanket which does not stay on her at night - she ends up holding it or sleeping on top of it.  I'm so confused on what age they start actually needing/using real bedding!

  • No answer, but glad you asked this as I've been wondering, too! I have a 12-year-old son, but can't remember what I did with him at that transitional time.

  • We bought toddler bedding for DS. It has the flat sheet and comforter and he stays covered up. He also didn't stay covered up in his crib with his baby blanket which he still sleeps with in his toddler bed...he holds it and covers up with the sheet and comforter.

  • DD is getting a bed soon (we are looking for a set). Anyway... she is getting  twin my sister bought set... it has a normal sheets (flat and fitted) and a quilt like comforter. She is sleeping under the quilt folded in half and loves it!

  • Thanks for the replies. As ridiculous as it sounds, I guess part of me still worries about SIDS even though DD has been sleeping w/ her baby blanket since about 9-months old!

Ugh, DD sleeps with a FULL sized pillow over her head. I've done everything I can to keep her from doing it, but she won't sleep without it. It's the same thing every night. She lays on her side, pulls the blanket up to cover the side of her face, and puts the pillow down on her head. I dont get it. But I have to sleep with both ears covered by a blanket, so I know where she gets that from!
