3rd Trimester

How how big is your LO right now....

So I posted down below how my Dr said that LO will be a big baby bc at 36 weeks he's already 5 1/2, but a bumpie said that her LO was the same weight and same week and she was going to have a small baby, Plus I checked what's normal for a 36 week baby and it says 5.9 lbs. Why would my Dr think LO was going to be big?

How big is your LO right now?

  • I had my growth ultrasound at 33w6d and LO was estimated to be 51/2 lbs.  The Dr. and tech both said that this was in the 75% for size so this baby is expected to be big.  Based on that, it seems like your LO is right on track.

  • My LO was 2lbs 3oz last week at 28w.

  • No idea... I don't really want the doctor to guess, I would rather just not have any preconceived ideas before I go into labor.

At 32 wks I did have a growth u/s and she said he was in the 52nd % for size. My H thinks he saw "4 lbs 4 oz" on the scan at that time. My OB said that average sized may be big for me, but I'm not worrying about it.

  • At the ultrasound I had last week (I was 36 weeks 1 day), they said 7 pounds. Dr. said he would be on the bigger side if that is right.
  • My doctor wants me to have a c-section because he feels LO will be big..at my 32 week ultrasound he was over 4lbs..

I am having another ultrasound to check again at 37 weeks..

But everyone says that the measurements are not accurate and can be off by a pound or more either way..

Who knows...but I am dreading the thought of a c-section..

  • I have no idea and am not getting a growth ultrasound.
All they keep saying is that my bump is growing right on track.

Those u/s measurements have a pretty substantial margin of error, so I'm not sure how accurate they are anyway.

  • they estimated at my 32week 3 day u/s that LO weighed 4 lbs 14 oz... and they figured at my EDD the baby will be almost 9 lbs with the half a pound a week of growth for the remainder of the pregnancy

  • Had our growth u/s today and she is measuring 95th percentile at 4 lbs at 29 weeks... she is also measuring 32 weeks in size, so way big for 29 weeks
  • we're getting another growth u/s on Thursday but at 30w he/she was 4lb 7oz based on the u/s. Since then we've heard a range of "guesses" from doctors so I'm curious to see what the u/s shows.

I didnt have a U/S, this was just her feeling my belly and measuring me.

  • I have never been told with LO how big they thought he would be...only what i was measuring as far as weeks go. However, with DS, my doc would tell me all the time how big she thought he was. I almost had to have a c/s because she was worried about an 11lb'er. I'm a small girl so she was concerned. I put my foot down & said no, i was almost 11lbs when born and my mom was fine. Anyway, my DS ended up only being 8lbs 8oz. I guess, still a healthy size, but those weight measurements are based on head circumference & femur (sp?) length...if he has a big head, they will tell you he weighs more...I wouldn't put too much stock in actual weight. Now if they say he has an unusually large head, that's a different story. LOL!

I'm sure it depends from doctor to doctor, but the reason I got an ultrasound is because my doctor said they are usually notoriously bad at guessing the baby's weight by feeling. He told one woman he believed she would have a 6 pound baby based on feeling and she had a 10 pound baby and told another she would have a 7 pound baby and it was 9 lbs. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

  • at 36 weeks about 5.5 lbs. MD said  "you wont have  a big baby"

  • At my 30 week scan LO was measuring 2lbs 14oz.  But we're having some size and growth issues.
  • We had a growth u/s at 36 weeks and LO was already measuring in the 98% percentile and estimated to be 9.4lbs. ?My fundal height has basically been measuring 6 weeks ahead the entire 3rd trimester.

  • Our MWs do it just by feel, but as of 39w, they were thinking 8lbs, give or take. They said they deliver a lot of bigger babies at the birthing center and my pelvis was of adequate size. I have a u/s on thurs since I will be 41w, we'll see if the u/s reflects what the MW thinks...

  • He was estimated at about 6lbs at 34 weeks. We go in on Wednesday for a growth ultrasound to get another estimate. I've thought from the very beginning that he was going to be as, or bigger than, my first son, who was 8lbs, 14oz. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.
  • Mine was 7 lbs, 15 oz at 38w1d. I am 40w1d now, and if he grew the standard half-lb per week... I'm looking at a 9lb+ baby. That's ok. I was 9lbs even, and my Mom had a super easy delivery.

I was given an estimate of 5 lb 7 oz at 33w1d and they told me he was in the 60th%, LOL.  My OB said that it they usually don't start really gaining 1/2 lb per week until about 35 weeks and she seemed to think he will end up 8-8.5 lb.  Not too sure I believe her.  My practice claims that their u/s weight measurements can have up to a 13 oz variance in either direction.

  • I wanted to add my doctor guessed by feel, then an u/s confirmed it.
