3rd Trimester

Where do you plan on baby sleeping?

I have been lurking on the 0-3 board. I am toying with the idea of trying the crib from the get go. Unless he is just one of those babies that absolutely won't sleep anywhere but with us. I am gonna try and be strong. Key word :TRY.

We do have a PNP with a bassinet in case this backfires!

What's your plan?

Re: Where do you plan on baby sleeping?

  • probably pnp for the first few weeks and move to the crib when we can. i'm open to whatever gets all of us the most sleep.

  • Beside me in a bassinet for the first 4-6 weeks, it's so much easier for breastfeeding!
  • i plan to have her sleep in her crib from day 1 as well.  i think it's hard enough to establish a pattern/routine once.  To have her get used to sleeping our room, then uproot her and put her in a crib sounds really difficult.  If need be, I'll sleep in her room with her, but I want her to get used to the crib right away.

  • The crib right away.  If that doesn't work, we don't have a backup plan.  Our room and LO's room are literally five feet away and our bedroom isn't big enough for a pack and play anyways.

  • My *plan* is to put him in his crib right away. I am not BFing, so having him in our bed isn't going to make things much easier. Of course we will see how things go.

  • Baby #2, like #1, will go in the bassinet right next to the bed.  I found when we brought DD home that the crib in the next room was too far away for me.  Then I realized that having the bassinet so close while I was nursing during the night was FABULOUS!  Those 3am feedings are so exhausting, and its nice to have the baby close by.  As soon as she grew out of the bassinet and started sleeping through the night she went in the crib.  There weren't any problems getting her to switch sleeping places.
  • Crib from day one- in her own room.
  • we're going to try naps in the crib, nighttime in the pack and play for a few weeks and then transition to the crib when we're ready. Of course all of this may change when the baby comes, we'll just have to see how it goes.
  • The "plan" is to have LO in the crib from night one. If not our PNP has a bassinet feature that we will use. LO's bedroom is righ across from ours.

  • We'll keep DS in with us at night in a pnp with the bassinet.  It's just so much easier when the baby is BF every 2-3 hours to not have to walk all the way down to the nursery and back.  I like to have everything I need within 3 steps of my bed for those first few months.  The pnp has a changing table and we even move my glider into our room so I can change him, BF him and get him back to the pnp (and me back to bed) without having to go further than a few steps.  Even just those few seconds/steps can save my sanity when I'm working on so little sleep.  He'll probably nap in the crib from the beginning during the day, though, because it's further from the rest of the house so the girls are less likely to wake him plus we'll have the monitor set up in there so I can hear him.  That also gets him used to the crib for when we're ready to move him (usually at about 10-12 weeks when the baby is getting up only once or twice at night - if he's like the girls).
  • A friend gave us a co-sleeper so we are going to use that for the first couple weeks to make night feedings easier. Then we will transition to a PNP in our room and then to the crib hopefully by 2 months.
  • I'm planning to have her in the crib from day one.  Babies are noisy when they sleep, so I'd rather not have her in our room.  Plus, it seems like it might be hard to transition her into the crib if we don't start with it from the beginning.
  • She will sleep in a bassinet in our room for the first two months.

We had DD in our room for the first three months; my plan was to keep her in our room until she started STTN since it was easier to pull her into bed with me to nurse her, but after listening to my mom and WTETFY, I switched her to the crib at three months and bam! she started STTN within two days. So this time I'll try moving the baby after just two months.

Honestly, the transition from bassinet to crib was harder on me than it was on her. She took to it right away, whereas I was crying over the fact that my little baby was growing up so quickly! lol.

  • We'll use the co-sleeper again.
  • For the first couple of months, in our room in the PnP or a bassinet.   Then off to his room he goes.

This. I plan to do whatever is most convenient for ME & LO for the first month or so...

  • We're going to use a cosleeper for as long as it's best for us and the baby. I'm planning to BF and would much rather just reach over and grab him than get up and walk down the hall every 2 hours.

Exactly this, though I wonder how likely it is that the baby will "need" to be in our room.  I'd rather avoid any sort of issues with transitioning him to his own room, even if it would be easier for me.

  • He will sleep in pnp right next to the bed, but I have to go to the nursery to feed so I don't wake dh so maybe it would be better to just have him in the nursery from the beginning..uhn ?? Now maybe I need to rethink it..

    This

  • We have a PNP for the first while.
  • We are going to try and do the crib in the nursery from day one.  As many people state it might not work.  Well obviously if my LO is not having any part of the crib and no one is able to sleep we will figure something else out.  Possibly the PNP in our room.  But were hoping the crib will work.
  • With DD, I didn't have any sleep plan. I guess I figured that all babies sleep in cribs and that's what I would do. But then I ended up sleeping with her the first night and things were decided there. After that, she refused sleeping anywhere but with us. Her entire infancy was spent making one transition after another.

Based on that, we plan to co-sleep with an in-bed co-sleeper for the first few weeks/month. After that, we'll likely use a bassinet (which is a bed-side one) and then move to the crib when DD #2 is 6 months or so. By then, we'll hopefully be able to afford either a toddler bed for DD or another transitional crib :)

The good thing is that since we already have a child, we have everything we need to co-sleep, etc.

I did this with DS and it worked well. We moved him to his crib at nap times at first and then started doing it at bed time. He has always slept in his crib since 3-4 months and does really well at getting himself to sleep. He's 2 1/2 now and never wants to sleep with us. Which I am happy about because we all get better rest that way.

This. FIL is building us a cradle that we plan to use for the first month or so. Then we will transition him to his crib.
