I have been lurking on the 0-3 board. I am toying with the idea of trying the crib from the get go. Unless he is just one of those babies that absolutely won't sleep anywhere but with us. I am gonna try and be strong. Key word :TRY.
We do have a PNP with a bassinet in case this backfires!
What's your plan?
Re: Where do you plan on baby sleeping?
Jack Emmett born on 2/2/10 after 17 cycles and a miscarriage

She will sleep in a bassinet in our room for the first two months.
We had DD in our room for the first three months; my plan was to keep her in our room until she started STTN since it was easier to pull her into bed with me to nurse her, but after listening to my mom and WTETFY, I switched her to the crib at three months and bam! she started STTN within two days. So this time I'll try moving the baby after just two months.
Honestly, the transition from bassinet to crib was harder on me than it was on her. She took to it right away, whereas I was crying over the fact that my little baby was growing up so quickly! lol.
For the first couple of months, in our room in the PnP or a bassinet. Then off to his room he goes.
This. I plan to do whatever is most convenient for ME & LO for the first month or so...
Exactly this, though I wonder how likely it is that the baby will "need" to be in our room. I'd rather avoid any sort of issues with transitioning him to his own room, even if it would be easier for me.

With DD, I didn't have any sleep plan. I guess I figured that all babies sleep in cribs and that's what I would do. But then I ended up sleeping with her the first night and things were decided there. After that, she refused sleeping anywhere but with us. Her entire infancy was spent making one transition after another.
Based on that, we plan to co-sleep with an in-bed co-sleeper for the first few weeks/month. After that, we'll likely use a bassinet (which is a bed-side one) and then move to the crib when DD #2 is 6 months or so. By then, we'll hopefully be able to afford either a toddler bed for DD or another transitional crib
The good thing is that since we already have a child, we have everything we need to co-sleep, etc.

I did this with DS and it worked well. We moved him to his crib at nap times at first and then started doing it at bed time. He has always slept in his crib since 3-4 months and does really well at getting himself to sleep. He's 2 1/2 now and never wants to sleep with us. Which I am happy about because we all get better rest that way.
This. FIL is building us a cradle that we plan to use for the first month or so. Then we will transition him to his crib.
