speaking of furniture, do you love your couch?

if so, where did you get it and how long have you had it?

We have lived in our house for 6 years and have had 2 couches in that time.  We already hate our new couch, which we've had for less than 2 years.  HATE it.  Everyone who sits on it remarks on how uncomfortable it is.  Got it from La-z-boy on a rec from here and it is awful.  I am so upset at having spent so much $$$$ on this thing.

Sooo..I'm going to try again.  Do you love your couch?  Tell me about it.  We want recliners, not so much a sofa bed (that's what we have now, w/ 2 recliners and a loveseat, it's a sectional) and that's about all we require.  We suppose other people will want to sit, so we'll either get another sectional or 2 couches.

In other couch news, anyone want to buy a custom covered La-z-boy sofa?  ;)  Selling at a deeply discounted price!

  • I LOVE ours. DH got it in L.A. about 10 years ago. I have no clue where, but I know it was pricey - he spent about $1,000 on it that long ago. It's a camel colored leather, and it's super comfortable. The cushions don't slide out either like they do on my parents' leather sofa. It's held up remarkably well considering the beating its taken from pets and kids.

It also has a matching chair, which is very comfy too, but we both wish it were a recliner.

  • Oh, that's one thing.  We don't want leather.  The cats would inadvertently shred it and we don't want to hate them.  :)

$1000 is not bad, considering how much **kicking myself** we paid for the thing we sit on now!  And that's another thing, I hate that our cushions on the sofa bed do slide out.  It makes it hard for Spencer to cruise.

  • I've never, ever been disappointed with the quality or style of PB furniture.  We've got the Greenwich couch, which doesn't sound like it suits your needs, but I'd highly suggest checking the PB outlet in San Marcos.  It's really hit or miss, but we got our couch there for $300.  Nothing wrong with it at all, it was just a special order someone cancelled.  My parents have the Pearce (Pierce?) sectional and it's pretty amazing as well.

  • I love ours.  We had the same problem you did, paid way too much for something we hated after a year or so.  We have this one from ZGallerie in the Domain, not sure about other locations:

We are not stupid enough to have a white couch though, so we got another color for no extra charge (they have a ton to choose from).  We have the couch and chair.  Reasons I like it: it's super soft material, all the pillows are removable so you can adjust to your comfort, it's super deep with pillows removed so it's great for napping, the arm rests aren't too high or too low.  DH's friend who is here all the time liked it so much he bought one too.  Oh, and bonus, they're having a sale.  Let me know if you ever need to stop by and try it out ;)

  • I love our leather sofa from Ethan Allen!  I can't find the exact model on their website now, but it came in either leather or fabric, and surprisingly the leather was cheaper than most of the fabrics.  I was resistant to leather at first, but I love that it is SO easy to clean - pet hair doesn't stick to it and breast milk just wipes right off.  With Jackson's reflux, I can't even imagine how nasty a fabric couch would have become over the past 7 months in our house!

It is super comfy and the cushions are really good quality.  I think we paid $1200 for it 5 years ago when we moved in, and it still looks great.  They use a dying process that dyes the leather all the way through, so if it does get scratched, it is the same color, not white underneath.  My grandma has a house full of Ethan Allen stuff - in fact she just had her couch from there recovered after about 15 years because she couldn't find a new one she liked as well.  HTH!
