Success after IF

Anyone discard or donate frozen embryos?

If so, why did you make the choice you did? We have 3 left and we just don't know what to do. I hate to spend the money to try knowing that we only have a 50/50 shot AND a great chance at another set of multiples if it does work... but yet, I can't seem to get on board with discarding or donating?

Re: Anyone discard or donate frozen embryos?

  • obviously I have not done IVF, but I have heard of people doing a really natural no-med form of FET, where they basically do nothing but transfer the thawed embies and see what happens. That way you gave it a chance, but not the greatest (more expensive) chance. I kinda liked that idea.

I would love to think I had the ballz to donate. Especially after  the road we've been on, but I'm not sure I could handle knowing I have a kid out there somewhere.

ps - where the heck you been, lady! how are ya??

  • ha. twin toddlers, full time job, freelance design work and Lil' LJ = no time! it does feel great to jump back on here and catch up and help out some other couples! how 'bout you?

we're great. the girls are so much fun right now. alot of work, but a ton of fun.

  • We have one embryo frozen and have decided when it comes up for renewal we will have it discarded. We decided this for a few reasons:

    1. It is alot of money to keep it and the chances of it taking aren't as good as with two transferred (which is what I had and have one child)

    2. I don't want to go through another treatment. I am happy if DD is our only child.

I will not donate, that was never a thought in my mind. But three is a good amount. I would keep them if I had three left and wanted another child :)

  • We're donating our one frozen embryo to stem cell research at U of Michigan.  I already contacted their stem cell research department and once they get their final federal approval (Jan or Feb) and I give birth, we'll fill out the paperwork and send it over.  I have a chromosome linked clotting disorder (MTHFR) and if our embryo can help with research into that or any other disease that causes suffering or death, we both agree that that would be one of the greatest gifts we could give.
