Cupcake recs?

Who makes your favorite cupcakes in Austin?

We're thinking about cupcakes instead of one big cake for Ocho's birthday and not sure who to use. Although the idea of taste testing every one in Austin sounds tempting, I thought it'd be best to whittle down my taste testing list first!

The only place I've tried is Sugar Mama's and I wasn't a fan. The cupcakes I tried there tasted like a boxed mix. If I'm paying someone else to make them, I want a more homemade flavor, you know?

Right now, I have my heart set on carrot cake, but can be persuaded otherwise if there is some awesome flavor out there. :) I've thought about ordering from our wedding cake vendor b/c we loved her carrot cake, but am hesitant to pay $$$ for her first birthday cake.

So, whose cupcakes do you love?

    There's a new place called Be My Cupcake that is in the Sky Ridge Plaza off of I-35 and Hester's Crossing up in RR.  I like them more than Hey Cupcake because they have more flavors.  While the cupcakes may be a little smaller than Hey Cupcake's, I think they are a lot more moist so worth it to me to splurge on every once in a while.  I've also read rave reviews for Taffy's cakes on here as well.

    There's a place that opened near my house in Leander called Kristy's Cakes that has wonderful cupcakes!!  If  you blink you'll miss it but it's off of 183 near Osage, before Crystal Falls.  The only thing is they are small, they aren't huge like some of the places in Austin but I also don't like cake/cupcakes so all of the other ones gross me out.  These are definitely worth a shot though!! :)

    Be My Cupcake has the BEST carrot cake cupcakes EVER.

    Mattie's Cakes are amazing and expensive. This is where we got Em's Birthday Cake and everyone raved about it. Also a friend had ordered her cupcakes from there and we always reminiscence about how yummy they were.  I always suggest him to my clients because it is guaranteed yumminess.

    polka dots is my favorite (near campus), but i also love sugar mama's, so maybe we don't have the same taste in cupcakes.  =)  hey cupcake does have a good carrot cake, but they don't have enough fun flavors for my liking.

    MrsRosie - I totally forgot your blog is on my reader...I knew I'd seen taffy's work somewhere semi-recently!

    Another rec for Taffy.  She made the most adorable sesame street cupcakes for Abby's 2nd b-day and farm animal cupcakes for her 3rd. 

     

    Here are the SS cupcakes!  Everyone was talking about how cute they were and bonus was they were also yummy!
