nap poll :)

at what age did your baby go from 3 to 2 naps?

I'm just curious because I'm surprised that Andrew hasn't!

Re: nap poll :)

  • I think around 7-8 mo.

ETA: a girl in my mom's group is still struggling to get to 2 naps w/ her 10mo old, so you aren't alone. :)

  • thanks Jen!

Andrew isn't quite 9 months yet :) I'm sure he will when he's ready but it would be nice :-) haha

  • DS 6 months. DD 7ish months, but her sleep isn't ideal. Some days her naps are short, some days long. Some nights she sleeps good some nights not so much......
  • Ella is down to two naps about 75% of the time. She started about 5 1/2 months. On the weekend or days we're home, she sleeps late morning (10ish) and then again at 4ish. The afternoon nap is what is most variable - sometimes it's split into two, other times it's one longer one.

That being said, Ella isn't exactly a model sleeper, so take my feedback for what it's worth!

  • I want to say Haley was around 6 months when we started noticing that 3 naps was too much.  I think it took a week or two for her to get used to 2 naps.  Her naps were at 9:30 and 2:30 or 3, with bedtime at 730 or 8.  She usually slept about 2 hours each time.

  • I think about 8 ish mos.  Even at that she regressed a bit and went back to 3 for a while.  Now we're working to get to one and it's making for a long afternoon.  She'll sleep for 90 min wakeup eat lunch and be ready for another nap within 90 min!
  • I think he's just starting to drop a nap.  He did yesterday and STTN!  We'll see what he does today.

Overall, Tyson sucks at napping, so naps are all over the place for us.

  • DD was trying to drop her 3rd nap at her 6 month appt and for DS it was just recently at 5 months (but I think this was because I was trying to get him on a schedule)

FWIW, our pedi recommened they should drop their 3rd nap by 6 months and their 2nd nap around 1 yr.  She said that with DD since she was trying to drop it and I kept putting her down for it; I should just to keep her entertained for a while longer and put her down for her 1st nap later and she will adjust.  This worked well for us.

If we keep andrew awake longer than 2 hours he starts whining nonstop, rubbing his eyes, etc.  He would have to stretch his awake time a LOT to go to 2 naps...I just don't see how to do this yet!

Right now his schedule goes something like this. naps are usually 40 mnutes ish

    wake up at 7

    nap at 9-10

    nap at 12-1

    nap at 3:30-4

get ready for bed at 6, asleep around 7

I have no suggestions. My kids fought it a little, but worked through it. Maybe he isn't ready?   Good thing is when they drop the nap, they usually nap longer

    My ds's schedule is:

Wake at 9; bed at 8p

    nap 12-2 & 4:30(or 5)-6

  • Yeah, I don't know!! We tried it about a month ago and he just whined.constantly.  He didn't sleep any longer at each nap!  fail!!

I may wait a couple more weeks and then try it :)
