Success after IF

How were you feeling mentally before your sucessful IVF cycle?

We are in the middle of our first (and probably only due to costs) IVF cycle.  DH and I have been really feeling like this is it and acting like this is going to work.  Did you feel that same way during your successful cycle?  I'm starting to worry that we might be setting ourselves up for an even bigger let down by acting like it is going to work.  How did you and your DH's approach it?

Re: How were you feeling mentally before your sucessful IVF cycle?

  • Basically I was just going through the motions and figuring out where we would go from there (we were out of money for any more treatment for at least a year, if not more. H wanted to give up and live child free).I was tired of being hopeful and being disappointed in the end so kind of blocked everything out and was in survival mode.

For cycles prior to that (my success was on my 3rd IVF) I was hopeful and convinced it would work. H was always optimistic, at least for me to see.

Good luck - I hope this cycle is it for you!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

This is the way I felt with IVF #1 that cycle was a BFN.

IVF #2 I hoped for the best prepared for the worst and just went with the flow so to speak.  I got PG on that cycle.

ditto this. by IVF#3 I was just hoping for a sticky BFP, after 2 m/c's.

I hope this cycle is IT for you!!

  • I had a lot of mixed emotions.  I felt like we had a really good chance of it working, but at the same time I tried to prepare myself that it might not work.  I remember being terrified of seeing a BFN, so I refused to POAS prior to our beta.  I wanted to pretend I was pg as long as possible.

I think for the most part though, I was hopeful.  Because the way I looked at it, our odds were so much greater than they had been at any point in the 3 prior years.  It helped that DH was really hopeful too.

    IVF #1 = BFP on 5/2009
    FET #1 = BFP on 5/2011
  • It's great to be optimistic - honestly, it doesn't matter how you feel in your cycle - that is not going to bring you a positive or negative outcome, so you might as well feel confident!

By our successful cycle, I was scared sh!tless and just praying on all prayers that it would work. Confidence was thrown out many cycles before; however, we got pg on IVF #3 with an additional canceled cycle in there too.

Good luck! I hope #1 is your lucky number! :)

  • My 1st cycle, I fel tthe same way. We were sure it was going to work.

#5 was the magic one for us, and by then, I was positive it wasn't going to work.  It was our last cycle and I wanted to be able to say "we tried everything we could" before giving up.   I truly did NOT think it was going to work.

  • We had emptied our savings for our cycle and I was trying to stay positive, we had quite a few setbacks and honestly I was exhausted from all of it, we were still reeling from DH's diagnosis as well.  DH, on the other hand, was very positive, and believed it would work, he refused to think otherwise.  Looking back, why not think it will work untl you hear otherwise, though it is tough I know.  I hope and pray this is it for you, hugs and good thoughts your way :)  Try and relax, and picture getting your BFP that helped me too :)

IVF #2 I hoped for the best prepared for the worst and just went with the flow so to speak.  I got PG on that cycle.

We also got pregnant on IVF #2.  After all the treatments, the best we could do is hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.  Hope you hit the money the first time around!

  • I was pretty sure it didn't work. In fact, three days before the test I lost it and just couldn't stop crying because I had horrific cramping and just knew my period was on it's way.

    Good luck to you!!!
