I am trying to decide on a baby sling, can anyone recommend the one that they are using. This is for when the baby first comes home. I hae a baby bjorn, but I wanted the sling for when she is smaller.
I've heard great things about the Moby wrap. I decided to make my own version of the Moby, and spent under $20 on fabric, which was enough to make two! Didn't even require sewing, just cutting the jersey fabric.
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.
I have a Moby and I love it. It gives you different hold options which is great for me since my baby prefers to live his entire life on my chest with his head on my shoulder.
The Moby may look daunting but it's incredibly easy to put on. I'm usually putting it on next to my car in a parking lot.
If you go on the Moby website, it illustrates the different ways that baby can be held in the sling. I think there are two options (?) for newborns, so yes, you can use it that early! Here is a link to the instructions: link

We've got the Moby wrap for when LO is a newborn, and a Beco Butterfly II soft structured carrier for when he's a little older. Both are super comfortable (too many of my friends have complained about the Bjorn killing their backs), and both can actually be used with a newborn infant -- the wrap just looks a lot more snuggly and comfy for a baby.

A local mom makes piggy sacks. A lot of moms I know swear by them. The are handmade Mei Tais (I think that is how you spell it). She has videos on each of the carries on her website to show how to do it and it is totally appropriate for newborns. I can't wait to get mine from SIL to use with my LO when he/she is born!
I Love my moby wrap, it is so easy on your shoulders and there are so many different ways to use it from newborn up. I was still using it with our first at 15 months when we took baby salsa classes.
Moby or hotsling/peanut shell are great. Please don't use the bjorn it's horrible for your child's spine and hip development.
Julie beat me to it.
We're starting out with a ring sling and a fitted sling (both of which I'll be making. Website: https://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/index.html ) We've also got a moby and when I'm out today I might buy some fabric to do a woven wrap - like a diddymus. It's the same concept as a moby, but without the stretch. Husband LOVES the idea of the moby. He seriously might start using it in the hospital.
When Bunny gets a little bigger we'll get a buckle carrier like a becco or a pikkolo.
Your options really are endless.
But like Julie said - the bjorn is bad for your child's hip and spine development. From what I understand it's because the saddle part where your baby's weight is actually supported is too narrow and so rather than the weight being distributed over the sits bones, hips, and upper leg, it's just on the spine. It's ok for short trips, but I wouldn't wear your baby in it for very long.
Thanks Ladies, I am going to research this a bit more. I have never heard anything about the Bjorn, but I will look into what you ladies are saying with that as well.

Did you just figure out how to make it or did you find online how to make one? Is it easy to do?
My friend just had a baby in August, she has a Maya Sling, and LOVES it. After seeing her use it and how much her baby loves it, I am getting one too.
I have heard lots of good things about the Moby wrap... I think it would be fairly easy to make as a pp stated... I think a Maya Sling lasts few just a few months until the baby gets too heavy for your back... But a Moby Wrap can be used more easily as the baby grows..
This is what I have found from my research.

So far we have a loveyduds, and we are planning on ordering a kangaroo korner fleece pouch.
The ladies on the Attachment Parenting board have great advice on baby wearing and great reviews on types of wraps, slings, pouches, carriers, etc...

And thebabywearer.com is also an excellent resource.
