Formula Question

I cant seem to find a formula thats working for LO. We've tried Similac Early Shield, Similac Sensitive R.S, Enfamil Premium Lipil and none of them seem to be sitting well - he always seems fussy, gassy and is spitting up insane amounts of formula. I was thinking about switching to Similac Isomil or Enfamil Prosobee but wanted to see the experiences you ladies had... HELP!

 TIA!!!

Re: Formula Question

  • Wow- that's a lot of switches in a short span of time. It takes time for their digestive systems to regulate with a new formula. So whatever formula he is on now give it at least a week to see how he is doing before switching again.

I personally love Prosobee Lipil. I used it with my two oldest. It stinks something awful but my girls never had gas or colic.

  • Have you tried Similac Alumentum?  My LO has a sensitive stomache and the pediatrician in the hospital switched him to this after two days of regular Similac. Worked like a charm! He stopped spitting up massive amounts of formula and the gas issues he had vanished immediately!  Our regular pediatrician did not agree with the hospital docs, so she wanted us to switch his formula. We did that, and the projectile vomiting started after the second bottle. We immediately went back to Alumentum and it's such a drastic change. Our LO is no longer fussy and doesn't spit up much. The only bad thing about the formula, though, is the price.

Check with your insurance.  DS has to be on it too and I called my insurance and it will cover it if the pedi authorizes it as medically necessary.

  • I was ask your pediatrician what he/she recommends.  LO had Enfamil Premium Lipil in the hospital and now drinks Similac Early Shield w/o any problems.
  • In less than three weeks?

Pick one and stick with it for a while. Tummy problems are common in newborns even if they are tolerating their formula just fine. Their digestive systems are still developing and the "kinks" are being worked out. I, too, really worried about it in the first month or so, but our pedi assured us that it can be very normal in those early weeks. At about six weeks old, the tummy problems resolved themselves with no formula switches at all.

FWIW, both of my boys were on Good Start Protect Plus from day one.

  • Our daughter has done great with Enfamil Gentlease. Before that she had a lot of gas that seemed painful to her.
