Multiples

Did anyone take Clomid?

I am starting Clomid next cycle. My Dr. said that it slightly raises the chance of multiples. Did anyone conceive multiples while on Clomid?

Re: Did anyone take Clomid?

  • keep in mind that the responses you get from people here will all pretty much be "yes- and i got multiples".... if you ask on SAIF you'll get a more correct average of multiples vs. singletons with clomid --- which is FAR more singletons than multiples - because, yes, clomid only raises the chances by about 10%.

That being said- Please make sure you are monitored by US so you know how many follies you have before you have sex or IUI--- because taking clomid unmonitored is DANGEROUS --- can result in hyperstimulation... 6 babies+, cysts and thinning of the uterine lining.

My DS1 is from clomid/IUI and the twins are, too.

Thank you for this info. This is all a little overwhelming.

  • Ditto Goldie. I've seen different stats but mostly I see that it raises your chance of multiples to 8-10%.

This!  I did not respond well to Clomid (my twins are from Femara + Injectibles + IUI) but I have seen/heard too many horror stories about not being properly monitored.  Best of luck to you!

After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks. Lilypie Third Birthday tickers image

  • I did!  I did 50 mg. and no IUI or trigger or anything else.  I actually started with triplets, but lost one at around 9 weeks.

I am starting at 100mg...a little nervous. Can I ask why you were on clomid? I have low progesterone.

  • I did 50mg Clomid (for LPD) for 1 cycle and we got our beautiful twin boys.
  • I was on 100mg for 3 IUI cycles, got the triplets on the 3rd cycle. I was put on Clomid after our first 3 unmedicated IUI cycles failed....to help boost our chances.

  • I was on 150 for clomid for all 3 pregnancies. A singleton, a loss and then twins. And as you can see in my siggy I also did trigger with IUI so clomid was not the only factor.

    Well said.

I have PCOS and used 100mg of Clomid, trigger, and B2B IUI- all closely monitored by my RE. I got PG with twins on the 2nd cycle.

  • Yes, but I also had an IUI. I took Clomid 3 other cycles without an IUI and didnt get pregnant

  • my RE starts with 100mg clomid - doesn't even bother with 50mg... and monitors blood and US very closely to see how it's going before doing timed intercourse or IUIs.

We did BTB IUIs with a trigger, too (and i was on metformin b/c I have PCOS).

With griffin it took one cycle (we had one mature follie on IUI day) with the twins it took 2 cycles (and had 2 mature follies on IUI day).  I respond well to clomid - thankfully... just the right amount of follies.  If we had 3 or more I would not have gone through with the IUI because we really didn't want triplets (because of the risks and just plain room in our house and finances, and what it would do to Griffin, etc... but we knew we could handle twins).

    good luck to you!

  • Twins - 50 mg Clomid, trigger and IUI. 2 mature follicles 2 days before IUI.
  • 50mg, first cycle, was not monitored.
  • 50mg for two cycles monitored with ultra sounds.  The first month one mature follicle and a BFN.  Second month, at the ultra sound they said, "Better luck next month.  You don't have any mature follicles."  We still kept trying and then I tested just for fun and got a BFP and when we went for out 8 week ultra sound we had twins!  Good luck to you!!

  • 100mg Clomid and Metformin for PCOS and LPD, only for 1 cycle. Fraternal twins run heavily on my mother's side of the family (I have younger fraternal twin sisters, and my mom has two sets of fraternal twin first cousins) so I think that might have played a role too.
