How to transport them once they're both in convertible car seats?

I'm trying to figure out how to get both girls from the car to their daycare center once we switch them to convertible seats.  (We just had to get convertible seats for my husband's car because he's going to be doing drop-offs and I'm doing pick-ups and they won't store their infant seats at the daycare center during the day.  And they're getting pretty long for their infant seats, so we don't want to buy two more of those right now.)

I'm envisioning unstrapping and picking up one baby, walking over to the other side of the car and putting her down ... where?  On the floorboard of the car?  And then unstrapping the other.  But then what?  He can't put them both in a stroller because we have to go up steps to get into the daycare.  And there are two gates to open and close to get in, so having full hands won't work.  It seems like a lot of hassle to put one baby in a bjorn and then carry the other baby (and the bag with their stuff), but is that the only option that works for our situation?  Is there something I'm not thinking of?

  • ..Can't wait to hear some suggestions!  We do two infant seats right now.  (Daycare doesn't mind us leaving them there.)  They are SO heavy now.  I don't want to leave one DD in the car and just take one at a time...  And eventually we, too, will have to switch to new seats before they are walking!  No clue what to do!

  • this is why I'm afraid to attempt day care with 3! I really hope we can find an affordable nanny to come to our house...

  • we already transport them into daycare with a stroller (even though Gray is still in an infant seat- gibby is not)... because I've got a 3rd i have to get inside, too.

it's not stroller accessible?? I can't even imagine.... I'd probably call ahead and ask the director to come to my car and help me get them in. It's not safe to be walking in carrying 2 kids + their stuff, opening doors, etc... there's just no way - you need help, or a stroller.

or - you'd have to wear them somehow ??

at my house i will sometimes put gray in a sling and carry
Gibby in my other arm when going out to the stroller so i don't have to go back inside to get the 2nd child.

  • Even if you have stairs you are going to have to use the stroller -- and they have got to have somewhere for a ramp I would think.  Even if not I go up and down stairs with mine, it's not horribly difficult.

When they are 11/12 months and still not walking there is no way you will be carrying them both into daycare in your arms.  It's best to figure out how to make the stroller work now :)

  • I'm interested reading these responses too.  I'm planning on just using a double stroller because I'm going to have to switch to convertibles soon.  I have a double Combi that's really easy to unfold and fold so my plan is to just use it to take them in in the morning and then hopefully leave it there during the day so we can use it to pick them up to and not have to load the stroller in and out of the van again.

that's what i do - i leave the stroller in daycare.  And Griffin loves to help me push it in- which helps keep him in line and not running into the parking lot :)

  • These logistic issues are what drives me crazy about having twins (I don't know how you ladies with Triplets+ manage this stage at all).  For a few weeks I was putting daughter in Bjorn and carrying my son (he's too heavy for front carrier), but now with winter jackets, etc. it's just too bulky to wear her.  I keep citymini in back of me car and use the double stroller to wheel them out of daycare - my husband uses a single umbrella stroller he keeps in his car and carries 1, but we don't have any stairs to deal with.

Ask your daycare director what other folks with twins have done and ask her for suggestions

  • This will be one of the hardest things.  I'm glad we aren't there yet.  I'll probably just bring a baby in at a time and drop them right in the door.  Thats what I do now, I carry my older DD in first or the babies in first drop them right in the door, and then go back for the other/others.  I figure eventually I'll just make 3 trips.  I park about 5 or 6 feet from the door and just drop and go back out.  Not very convenient, but I only have so many arms.
  • I'm really surprised your daycare isn't stroller accessible. I would tell them that if they don't have a ramp available, they will need to send someone out to help bring your LOs in or you might have to find a new daycare.
