3rd Trimester

Goodbye sleep. I'll miss you.

So, of course, I've been waking up every 2-3 hours to pee at night for a while now, but the past 2 nights I have spent more than an hour straight lying there in bed unable to sleep. And last night I never slept for more than 40 minutes at a time.  I don't know what the deal is.  It's so disappointing to stop sleeping already when I know that it's gonna get so much worse when the baby is born!

  • I've been the same way for the past few weeks. I wake up at 3-ish and can't fall back to sleep. Might have something to do with the fact that I fall asleep at 9 though...hmmm.

  • Yeah I've been like that for the past month at least - usually I'm wide awake from 2-5 or so, plus getting up every hour or hour and a half to pee. It sucks but I just keep telling myself that it's good preparation for newborn feedings.
  • I have had a lot of issues with sleep during pg -- not just waking to pee, but insomnia that keeps me awake for hours in the night.  Then, once I started getting really uncomfortable and having a lot of contractions that wake me, I talked to my dr.  He said I could safely take 1-2 Tylenol PM everynight, if needed.  That helped me for a while, but when even that wasn't enough, he wrote me a prescription for Vistaril, which is actually a decongestant or something, but has the side effect of drowsiness.  He said it is completely safe to take during pg.  I have been taking just one of those at bedtime, and it has helped immensely.  Last night, I was exhausted, and went to bed at 10, slept until 8 this morning, getting up just a couple of times to pee.

I know some people are not comfortable taking any kind of meds during pg, but the lack of sleep was really affecting my quality of life.  I was headachy, grouchy, and had no patience with my daughter.  A good night's sleep (well, decent, anyway), makes a world of difference.  So, I would consider Tylenol PM or talking to your dr.

  • I've been sleeping pretty great in my opinion if it weren't for the multiple nighttime potty breaks although my husband says I've started snoring, talking, and thrashing around in my sleep..poor guy.
