Your babies' schedules at 1 month....

Just wondering if (or when) your babies developed a schedule. My girls are just over a month old and have no predictable patterns, aside from feeding every 3 hours. They're awake at various times throughout the day, and even more at night, which often means little sleep for DH & me.

I've read that at night, it's a good idea to avoid stimulating them in order to send the "you should be asleep right now" message; however, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around ignoring them & turning all the lights out, even if it's 3am.

What are your experiences?

Thanks :)

  • At that age our schedule was just that they eat every 3 hours.

Start doing a bedtime routine for what will eventually be your last feeding for the night (ours was/is simple, diaper change, lotion, pjs, bottle, bed).  If they wake at night to eat/be changed keep the lights as low as possible, do not turn them on or it will stimulate them.

  • I know you can put them on a schedule earlier, but babies will set themselves on a schedule around 3m (I was actually getting ready to ask how to start one earlier).  As far as night time, you don't ignore their crying, but keep the lights low, try to make very little eye contact, and don't talk to them much.  During the day make sure to have lots of light and try to stimulate them more when they're awake.
