This is my first pregnancy and I will be 24 weeks tomorrow. Monday night I woke up with some cramping. It felt just like menstrual cramps but I haven't had cramps since early in the pregnancy. To be on the safe side, I talked to the on-call doctor and he asked me to come in.
It was a good thing I did, because those cramps turned out to be contractions. The doc admitted me right away and put me on indomethacin to stop the contractions. It was very scary because I honestly thought I was being overly cautious and they would send me home. Perhaps it was a UTI. It didn't feel anything like a contraction. Just a constant cramping. I'm so glad I followed my gut and didn't ignore.
The indo didn't work, so they tried terbutaline and that stopped the contractions. They continued to monitor me and let me go home Wednesday afternoon. I'm officially on bedrest - no walking the dog, no cooking, no cleaning and no work.
This morning I experienced what I thought were contractions and went back to the hospital. The monitors showed no contractions and after an IV I felt better. Even though I've been drinking water like it's going out of style! They kept me for 2 hours and sent me home again. The staff and the doc were very nice, and kept saying they would rather have me come in and it be nothing, rather than ignoring it.
I'm grateful everything turned out ok. It's not the best situation but it could have been a lot worse. Is there anyone else with a similar experience? Any helpful advice? I am worried that every little twinge is a contraction. I don't want to ignore but I don't want to call the doc for everything too. I just feel unsure and I hate that.
TIA
Re: Back from L/D and on bedrest - LONG
I didn't have contractions, but on Monday I didn't feel great and asked to come in to my OB to just get checked out. I wasn't in labor, but my cervix showed shortening. Now I'm on bedrest, too. I have been spending time over on the High Risk Pregnancy board, it is a little slow but there are bedrest check-ins.
I'm starting to get stir-crazy, but I will do anything in the world to keep my babies in for at least three more months, and I'm sure you would do the same.
I have called the OB with questions, and so far it has not amounted to anything, so I have not come in. But I think it is better to call and be annoying than to miss having something serious looked at.
This is very similiar to what happened to me..except that was dialated and had to have a cerclage b/c Baby A's bag of waters was in my birth canal...I just felt off and pushed to go in to L&D just to check things out (I'd felt terrible the night before, but just thought I'd over done it, and didn't notice any contractions)...so, I went in to get checked, left from work about 15 minutes after school started. Stayed at the hospital for 3.5 weeks (my peri wanted me to get to viability)..then I went home on BR...they anticipated me being on BR for a long time..a.t 29w, 6d (after my BEST appointment), my water broke.
I won't lie BR is hard, but you can do it, arrange lots of visitors, especially during hte lunch hours if you can (makes getting lunch easier AND it breaks up your days)...get some good books, and don't spend too much $$ online shopping! Remember YOU can do it.
