Sitting milestone question.....

How close in age did your LOs start sitting?

K has always been ahead of M and K is now sitting full time while M is still having tons of assistance. Is this normal?

Re: Sitting milestone question.....

  • I think it just depends on the baby.  Nathan started sitting about 2 weeks before Joey.  They both do receive PT through EI due to gross motor delays from being premature.  I think it's hard not to compare babies, but you have to remember they are 2 different people.  If you are concerned about M you could have her evaluated through EI.

  • I can't remember exactly, but they were quite different and have been different for most of their milestones and the seem to alternate who goes first.  L was the first to roll, K was the first to sit, L was the first to crawl, K had the first tooth.  K will probably be the first to walk, but I'm guessing L will be the first to run!  They are two individuals so they do develop differently.  I wouldn't worry too much about it. :-)

ETA:  I think there may have been at least a 3 week difference in sitting.  K started sitting around 6 months, but L was closer to 7 months.

  • I don't remember exactly but I know Jack is just about always two weeks behind Bella... he just does things when he wants to :)
  • 5mo is pretty early to sit unassisted- the average is about 6mo --- so give M some time.  Remember- if you didn't have a 2nd baby to compare to you wouldn't even think she was "behind" at all - b/c she's not.  I remind myself this all the time b/c one always does things before the other.

Griffin didn't sit unassisted until between 6-7mo.

  • I know all of you are right and most of the time IM the one telling other people that they are separate people that do things at different times but Maddy has had so many other things going on that I think I started to implode yesterday and freak out. lol

We have to go back to the doctors again because Ms hands and feet keep turning purple for no reason. Her feet always have and I discounted it for poor cir babies have but now he hands are doing it and its NOT normal. Started xmas eve and is still doing it. I called and am going on monday so see what is going on. Not to mention that we have to go back to the GI doctor because her system can not handle cereal. So we need to find out what is going on there.

So really...i was just freaking out a bit and asking questions my head knows the answers too.

    thank you all!
