Well keeping my fingers crossed wasn't enough. I started having contractions yesterday morning about 8-12 mins apart. They weren't painful, just felt the tightening. After several hours of drinking water and laying on my side, my peri finally had me come to the office. They said my cervix was long but dilated to 1. They didn't seem too worried about that but I am freaking out about it. Anyway, I started Procardia and strict bedrest yesterday. So far it seems to be helping. After about an hour of taking it I don't have any contractions. Then after about 4 1/2 hours I start to have some again until my next dose (I take them every six hours).
Has anyone been through this? Were you able to keep the babies in for several more weeks? What about being dialated? I know I sound overly freaked out, but I am. I still want to try and keep them in until 36 weeks.

Re: Bad Day... Contractions...
I'm sorry that you're having some contractions. Scary when it's before you're ready to see them on the outside!
I started having some last week and have been in the hospital three times, and am still there now.
I was started on procardia 10 mg every 6 hours. It worked well for a few days, but then I starting contracting a lot again. I've been here since Tuesday for the stuff this time. I'm a fingertip dilated. They did some terb shots, then started scheduled doses of oral terb, but that wasn't cutting it. Homecare came up yesterday to start me on a terb pump, which I will continue at home once I'm discharged. It's working better than anything else so far, although I still have some contractions, especially in the hour before a bolus dose is due (it gives a continuous rate, a bolus dose every 4 hours, and I can bolus 2 extra times in a 24 hour period if needed. There is some play room with the dosing, so we increased my basal rate this morning.)
So, I can't answer about whether I kept the babies in for several more weeks for myself, but I have seen several women on here who were on hospital bedrest and having preterm scares who were able to.
Long story short - nonpainful contracting, completely effaced with pressure, and 1+ cm dilated at 27 weeks, discovered at routine ultrasound. Sent directly to hospital bedrest. Mag, steroid shots, then procardia for 8.5+weeks. Daily monitoring showed my irritable uterus contracting a whole lot - not painful.
A's water eventually broke at 35w2d, had my c-section within an hour, both girls with absolutely no issues at birth!
Try not to be too freaked out!
ETA- Procardia wasn't for 8.5 weeks... more like 8 weeks. I was off it a couple days before a's water broke.
no experience but just wanted to say I hope the procardia and bedrest help!! hang in there...
my new mantra is:
My uterus is relaxed and calm
My cervix is long and closed
My babies are happy and safe
Repeat as often as necessary...
definitely really do the bedrest as directed and try to stay relaxed and hopefully they'll stay in there. I had a friend pregnant the same time as me and she had twins, she was in the hospital on bedrest from 23 weeks through 35 weeks when she delivered them. So 12 weeks she went!! She was having contractions, too and her cervix was really short (can't remember now what it was).
GL! Mine came 34 weeks 5 days and spent 12 days in the NICU (boys) and 5 days in the NICU (girl) all as feeders and growers. So even a few more weeks would help a lot
