I know there have been posts about what to give your daycare provider, but I have a different dilemma. Today, when my DH picked up DD, our provider had a gift for her/us. I just opened it...She got us four outfits for DD and a box of chocolates for us. Needless to say, it was very unexpected.
First, do you think this is an appropriate gift? Second, should I be getting her a substantial gift? I was originally, I was planning on getting her a giftcard equal to a week's fees, pro-rated for the fact that we've only been with her for 3 months.
TIA
Re: WWYD? Daycare provider gift
Emily Post's web site has some good advice for holiday tipping:
https://www.emilypost.com/everyday/holiday_tipping.htm
My DCP gets the kids a bday gift and a Christmas gift each year. It is usually a smaller gift - under $20 I would say. This year for Christmas she got us the IKEA Easel and paper. I gave her a $100 gift card and a tin of homemade cinnamon bun popcorn. I just can't afford a week's pay which would be more than I spend on my and DH's family or the girls and neither DH nor I get a bonus to help out with holiday tipping.
My mom was also a DCP at one time and she would get the kids more like 30 or 40 dollar Christmas gifts and this was 20 years ago. She did love to shop and she loved Christmas.
I think it was appropriate... she was being nice.
I like your gift card idea. I don't know how much you pay a week, but I'd probably give at least $75-100 (not sure if that's what it would come out to prorated...)
