Babies: 3 - 6 Months

umbrella strollers

Hoping to buy an umbrella stroller during the after-Christmas sales.  We are thinking of using it on an upcoming trip when LO will be 6 months.  I'm not sure if that is too early.  He is a very big boy right now and has good head control, but I don't know if that makes a difference.  By 6 months he may or may not be sitting up on his own.  Anyone know what's recommended for umbrella strollers?

Also, we are looking at Maclarens, any recommendations???

Re: umbrella strollers

  • I always thought that you could use umbrella strollers at 6 months.  Hmm, I'm interested in seeing what everyone else says.

  • We have the quest and I can't wait to use it. It reclines enough that we can use it now, but it was so cold during our recent trip to DC (where we had hoped to use it) that we figured he would stay warmer in the carseat. You should be able to use it with the recline now.

It's pricey, but we figure it will be our main stroller unless we start walking everyday, in which case we'll also get a jogger. This will def. be the trunk of the car stroller, though!

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I think the Maclarens are suppose to be great and very lightweight. I also need to purchase one sometime in the near future.
  • I was wondering the same thing. We are going to Hawaii in June and DS will be 9 months by then, so I really would like one for traveling. I would like to get one sooner though because I walk the dogs a lot and I would like to have something easier to pull up and down stairs.

  • DS is 4.5 months and I have 3 umbrella strollers. Love the Maclaren Triumph - and we've been using it for well over a month already. Also have the Chicco Liteway. I got it because it reclines to a completely flat position (hard to find with an umbrella stroller!). It's a smooth ride, but pretty bulky, defeating the purpose of an umbrella stroller. Also have the Chicco Capri and so far, so good. Much lighter and compact than the Liteway. Good luck!
  • I love my City Mini.  It's great for him now too, b/c it reclines all the way back.  The umbrella feature on it is FANTASTIC and he'll be in it until he's 55 lbs.  It adapts for Graco and a few other infant seats, so we don't even have another stroller...never will.  It's awesome, light weight, compact and easy peasy to fold and unfold.
  • I have a maclaren quest which i have been using from baby was 3 months keeping it fully reclined.  I bought it from an ebay store..babyproducts i think for $140 brand new.  It came from Connecticut where maclaren have an outlet store.  The same stroller was $270 in buybuy baby.
