Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Lots of bumbo questions...

We got one at a garage sale before LO was born and have been using it for the last month or so...he seems to like it.

My boss just gave us another one for Xmas, with tray. Debating about taking it to my moms house (she watches LO once a week). He would of course use it right now as he is not sitting alone...but I assume he will be sitting alone in a month or two.

Do you still use the bumbo after LO can sit alone, like during meals?? Do you sit LO in it and put that on the table/chair to feed them? We dont plan on starting solids until 6 mo, will he be too big for the bumbo by then?

Trying to decide if I should attempt to return this without the receipt or if he will use it at my moms enough in the next few months to keep it (and we'll be having more children, and its a neutral color, so I'm leaning towards keeping it)

Re: Lots of bumbo questions...

  • I still use ours frequently, DD does not sit on her own yet. The tray is nice too bc then I can put toys on it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I would keep even if not feeding yet. You can toss some toys on the tray and occupy LO.
  • I don't know about the bumbo when they can sit up so I'm no help. But your LO's eyes in the pic! Did you enhance I assume? Cute
  • I've heard they're convenient (yet completely humane) baby-trappers for a few months -- even after baby can sit up on his/her own, you still have some time before he/she can figure out how to get out of the Bumbo.  So you can stick baby in it to run and throw a load of laundry in, take a shower, etc. and come back knowing baby will be in the same place.

Wish we could have gotten more use out of ours, though.  DS's legs are so chunky I had to squeeze them down into the leg holes, and with a cloth diaper on his butt, his bum is WAY to big to fit in there.  I pushed it until we had to exert effort in pulling the Bumbo back off his a$$ before I gave up and retired the darn thing.

  • I love the bumbo for feeding the LOs. I just started with M&K but used it for feed my oldest DD as well.

  • I used the Bumbo and tray as a portable highchair for a while... like up to a year.

And my 2 1/2 year old that is 32 lbs - can still fit in it!!

I would keep it or at least the tray...

  • My son loves the bumbo!  He still sits in it when I'm making his bottle, to eat with us, or when I feed him oatmeal.  He is starting to move in it so that I really have to keep an eye on him.  I think he'll figure out how to get out of it soon.

Even though it's been great, I think I would return it & get something else.  You could also get a much cheaper one on craigslist for your mom if you decide that you need it.

Actually, not enhanced! How crazy is that? They aren't normally so bright, it must have been the lighting...we went to Picture People :)

Warning: My DD can wriggle out of hers and she's only tried it a couple of times. I would NOT leave my LO unattended.

  • We still use ours every morning.  I put him in it while I get lunches together/make bottles/etc.  He's usually only in it for 10 minutes or so.  But enough time for me to get stuff done to get out the door.  I would keep it if I were you.  DS loves to sit in it with the tray on, b/c he can slam toys onto the tray and make lots of noise!!! Boys love to make noise!  Wink

nor would I. DS stretches his legs and raises his butt when he wants out. It never worked as a "baby trapper" for us. If I don't watch him he could end up on the floor one way or another and I don't want him falling or throwing himself off the bumbo. I read about some LO that stays in that thing for 45 min. Not mine. 3 minutes, tops.

DD tries to get out of hers as well. She arches her back and raises her butt. I have to keep my eye on her while she is in it! I think she may almost be done with the Bumbo!
