B6 after conception

Yesterday, someone had posted a ? about B6.  I know I was taking it to lengthen my LP as was this person and was curious if taking it still would be a good thing.

I just asked my doctor and she said to stop, whatever you need you can get from you PNV.  Forgot who asked, but hope that helps!

Re: B6 after conception

  • It was me, thank you.  Although I'm more confused than before.  The answers I got got here (and on BOTB) as well as on google are all conflicting.  Some say their OB has prescribed up to 100mg/day for morning sickness, while others said they were told to stop - as you were.  I have a call into my doctor this morning so hopefully she'll know what to tell me.  Thanks sharing your experience though.

  •  My dr has me on 25 mgs three times a day for m/s.
  • I took it to concieve by lengthening my LP and it worked, I was afraid to stop cold turkey after my BFP, so I have been knocking down my dosage ever since... I was at 100 before BFP, then went down to 50 (I just cut the pills in half), now I'm at 25 and will stay there until first appt on 01/7.  This was not advice given to me by a Dr, but a what I feel is a happy medium between stopping and too much, I figure if ladies are taking it for m/s and its also in foods and beverages, we'll be fine.
  • I take it as needed for m/s. 50mg up to 3 times a day

I'm not really sure why you'd need to stop unless you were (oddly) having adverse reactions to it. All B vitamins will pass out of your system via urine if you have more than you need. Hence why sometimes you may notice the lovely highlighter yellow pee, so fun! This is not true of all vitamins and minerals, but B vitamins are impossible to overdo on because as I said, any excess will be peed out! See what the Doc says, but I can't see why on earth it'd be detremental to the baby unless as I said, you were having strange reactions to it (and more than likely it'd be the compound or the coating, not the B6 itself). GL!

  • B6 also acts like folic acid in preventing birth defects - I understand that it's very good.  I was told by my dr. that you can't take too much of it....I guess they all have different opinions, though.
  • This question has been on my mind for a while but I was waiting until my Jan 6th appt to discuss with the doctor. I have done research on the internet and read othe boards and it went either way. Please keep us updated!
