my sister's birthday is today and she wants to have dinner there. So, if our baby-sitters don't flake out, we're going to meet them there. What kind of dress code is it? Do you recommend anything on the menu over something else? All the meat choices have me confused!

But I'm very much looking forward to it.
Re: has anyone eaten at Fogo de Chao?
I've eaten at the one in Houston. They have something like 17 kinds of meat. The waiters come to your table and offer you pieces. It was fantastic but definitely a heart attack in the making (several of the meats involved bacon!).
You get a little cardboard circle to have next to you on the table. If you have the red side up, the waiters will pass you by. If you have the green side up, every passing waiter will offer you more meat.
In addition to the waiters offering meat, there is a buffet with veggies/salad type stuff. The buffet was a little different, as it is Brazilian-style rather than typical buffet food.
As for dress code, I wore khakis and a shirt. You'd probably be fine with something similar. I don't know that I'd wear cutoffs or shorts, but it is winter so you probably wouldn't be wearing that anyway. If you wanted to be very dressy, you would not look out of place but I don't know that dressing up is required.
Let me start by saying I have never eaten at Fogo de Chao, so take my advice with a grain of salt. However, I did live in Brazil, so I am going to make my recommendations based on what one should order in a real Brazilian churrascaria. Lombo is a delicious meat in any Brazilian churrascaria. The chicken was also always fantastic. As far as the red meats, I generally went with a filet or fraldinha. I do not like beef ribs of any type but the pork baby back ribs are typically yummy.
And no Brazilian meal is complete without pao de queijo. In fact, this past weekend, we went to Sampaios (another Brazilian restaurant in Austin) and had the best pao de queijo since moving back to the US. Love it.
For dessert you should try the South American flan.
Anyway, those are my recommendations. I'll be interested to hear if you enjoy the dinner. :-)

Yum! I am jealous, we love that place.
There is no regular menu, atleast not that I know of. Princessbride described how it works perfectly.
As for dress, well it is a fairly upscale place but this IS Austin. I think I wore a casual skirt and top and DH wore nice jeans (dark wash) and a nice shirt.
mmm, looks like I'll be having one of those caipirinhas. Sounds good!
thanks ladies. I guess I'll wear some slacks and a nice shirt or sweater (depending on whether it gets colder) and force my husband to wear something other than his regular jeans.
note to self: find pair of maternity pants for stretchiness factor.
That would be a good idea. ;-) Mat pants = my future stuff my face pants.
