Does your LO have a lovie?

I bought her one for christmas and am wondering how to introduce it? (and if it might be a waste of money)

DId you just give it to your LO one day and it was love-at-first-sight?  Or was is more gradual?  Did you have to push your LO to be become attached to it?

She has never really been attached to anything but my boob. lol.  She doesn't really get the paci thing, gave her the Seahorse, that was a no go. Just wondering........

  • DS became attached to his blankie one day when we couldn't get him to nap and I decided to give it to him to see if it would help, and he fell asleep immediately.  It's not something I bought him, though, his Bubbie made it for him.

  • My little one has two lovies, but he doesn't love them!  I know a lot of babies get very attached to them though.  My DS just doesn't give two hoots.  Maybe when he's older.
  • DD has 4.  They were all gifts.  She is not really attached to any of them but she used to like to hold one them when I was rocking her to sleep.  (I have slept with each one at one time or another so that they smell like me.)  She won't let me rock her to sleep anymore so now we just play peek-a-boo with them.
  • Jonah has two.  He is in no way shape or form attached.  He does like to chew on it though lol.

  • my girls each have one...they like to squeeze/rub it when the go to sleep...I just gave it to them one day a while ago and they went with it...
  • We introduced a lovie when we began sleep training. DS has an angel dear monkey blanket that he is very very attached to.

Some nights when he does not want to sleep he will stand up in his crib and cry while holding the blanket- it always falls to the floor which makes the crying even louder. I will go in his room, lay him back down, and give him his monkey and all is good again :) He will even hold it for the 1st hour he is awake, he will crawl one handed while monkey is in the other hand.

I bought a few more for him in the event he lost the original or when we needed to wash it but he knows which is which - he always go after the same grungy one.

  • DS is very attached to his lovey.  We introduced it around 5 months when we decided to stop rocking him to sleep.  I slept with the damn thing up my shirt for two nights so it would smell like me.  I gave it to him and it was love at first sight.

  • anything that is soft and she can rub on her face and put in her mouth is her lovie! I'd say she has 3 she really likes and are interchangable.

    1. a doll we call baby Lovie

    2. a giraffe that is plush on one side and silky on the other

    3. the seahorse (she likes to wrestle the seahorse.)
