information about the medical weight loss diet

i know a couple of girls wanted to know what it was but when I got on yesterday, i pretty much had to get right back off to get LO.  Basically, because my BMI was technically in the normal range but on the high side, I do what is called the option program.  Really, the only big difference is the products i take are all natural (not as potent).

I take 1 appetite suppressant midmorning for the first week. The first 3 days are protein only (1000 calories).  From Day 4 on, I can add in vegetables (800 protein, 200 vegetables).

Week 2 I began the fat burners at lunch and dinner. (That's the only difference from week 1)  Week 3 and 4 you start to add in dairy and fruit. but not sure how yet, because i'm not there.  THere is a list of do's and don'ts of eating but it really works.  Oh, and I also get a b12/b6 combo shot each week.

Re: information about the medical weight loss diet

  • You're only eating 1000 calories a day, and you lost 10 lbs in one week? This does not sound like a very healthy diet to me.

  • When you eliminate carbs from your diet, you lose water like crazy.  There is no way that the diet she has detailed here will make you lose 10lbs of fat (a net 36000 calorie deficit).

Of course virtually anyone will lose weight on 1000 calories a day.  But it is not sustainable typically.  Once regular eating is resumed, so comes back the weight.

Sure fire way to lose weight: sensible eating and exercise.  Works every time.

  • actually i thought the same exact thing.  a friend of mine did this last March and lost 30 pounds and has kept it off. I was extremely skeptical and decided I would just see how she did, since I was pregnant at the time anyways.  I have lost almost 50 lbs on my own since having my LO.   I'm a big fan of eating sensibly and exercising (which I do and on those days, I have more calories).  However, as many women on  this board know, it is very hard to get of those last 20-25 lbs, especially if you put on as much as I did pregnant.  You have to continue to eat sensibly and work out and this program slowly weens you back onto dairy, fruit, etc.  You are monitored weekly and by a nurse and doctor also. I agree it sounds crazy, but it is actually working.  I know how  to keep it off once I'm there too.  And I'm actually eating better and didn't realize how good I would do and feel on this diet.  Because I am seeing such good results so quickly, it is much easier for me to keep going and continue to make good food choices.  Maybe for some other people, they dont have to do this.  But for those of us that are stuck and need a little help, its wonderful.
  • Well, I'm definitely stuck in a weight loss rut and do need a little help - but I don't think a fad diet is going to do it for me.  I've been down that road before, and always always put the weight back on.  A crash diet like that is not healthy for your body, period.  Plus, dropping weight that quickly (and subsequently putting it back on) is bad for your heart.  Not something I'm interested in.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade - I'm glad you're comfortable with the diet, and I'm happy that it's working for you.  I just want other people reading this to know that it's not a healthy solution to the problem, before they blindly jump on board as well.

  • I know how you feel with being stuck in a rut.  And thats exactly how I was, I felt like I had done everything and the quicker I could get it off after being pregnant the better.  I have owrked my butt off since 6 wks pp and just needed help.  I dont expect to lose 9 lbs or anything close to it next week. Your body regulates and will only start to lose about 2 pounds a week.  Your caloric intake will eventually rise.  Its not like I will be on a 1000 calories the rest of my life, thats ridiculous.   If you put it back on, then thats your fault.  This diet allows to eventually work back to a higher caloric intake but you will be able to make better choices in eating.  And working out will always be something I do because its healthy.  I wouldn't do this either if I thought it was a fad.  I chose it because I needed the extra help and because I saw someone with success on it and has stayed successful.
  • Since you're  eating so few cutting calories, you're not getting energy/nutrients that you need...which is why  you're getting B12/B6 injections for energy??? That doesn't sound healthy at all. If it's working for you great, but I hope other women seeing this do their homework.,

I'm actually going to link this post to a friend of mine who is a registered dietician to see what she thinks about it.

Thanks, but no - it's not.  That's the difference between a fad diet, and a true lifestyle change.  With a fad diet, you will put the weight back on no matter what you do.  But thanks for blaming me, that's cool!

  • my question is... if you are technically in the normal range for your weight why would you want do such an extreme plan (and yes I do think that shots, 1000 calories and fat burners are extreme.) ? Is your dr. concerned about your weight?

I'm not trying to flame - just trying to see the reason behind it. ??

I wasn't saying you specifically and it is a lifestyle change.  I never ate really horribly (except when pregnant) but i just couldn't get myself in line enough to be able to not have certain foods.  Thats just me.  With this, I have something working with me that will allow me to slowly do it on my own.  I'm not just going to stop cold turkey.  It IS helping with a better lifestyle change.  I am eating better and able to make better choices and once I'm to my goal weight and have weaned off of the fat burners, etc. I will WANT to eat better because I have put a lot of time and energy into making better choices of food.  I weigh what I eat and stop when I'm full, not overstuffed.

Yes, I"m on the upper end of the normal range.  Pretty much on the line exactly.  I dont have a TON to lose which is why all of these products are an all natural supplements.

  • 1000 calories isn't all natural. ?And what kind of fat burners are all natural? ?

I would also caution that "all natural" doesn't necessarily mean its good for ?you. ?You can still do damage with "all natural"

    ?

My main point is that those are pretty extreme measures if you are just wanting to lose "vanity" lbs. ?

YOu can think what you want of the diet.  I really dont care.  And maybe you dont think this diet is for you or whoever and that is fine too.But dont call them "vanity" pounds.  I take pride in being able to look good and fit back into all of my clothes and try to better myself.  While I'm losing my "vanity" pounds you can keep your "too lazy to do anything about" pounds.

  • i am planning to go to a doc in the area in the new year, that specializes in weight loss.  wonder if this is the same diet he will recommend.

sorry people are bashing you... i know how hard it is to lose weight.  and i don't consider them vanity pounds at all.  congrats on sticking to this diet!!  and lots of luck!

    sorry to rattle your cage...

"vanity" lbs are those pounds you lose to look better in jeans an feel better about yourself. ?You don't lose them for health reasons (such as lower cholesterol, reducing heart attack and diabetes risks.) ?It was not an insult.?

I'm all for losing weight and feeling better about yourself. ?For your information I am not "too lazy to do anything." ?I am dieting and exercising as well. ? I want to look good as much as the next gal...?

You do what you want... and I'm glad you're being monitored by a dr. ?I just wanted to put out there that "all natural" doesn't necessarily mean its good for your body. ?I'm sorry my opinion rattled you so... but I do think its extreme for just a few lbs (especially if you are already in the healthy range - meaning NOT at risk for heart attack/diabetes/high cholesterol etc.)

well, my 'vanity"pounds are pounds that I need to lose to actually fit back into my jeans, etc.  and just becaue I'm in the normal range doesn't mean I am at my ideal weight for my body type.  Normal range is very wide. And it is more than just a few pounds, its actually 25 lbs. I wont take it as an insult now but I dont think there is anything wrong with wanting to lose the "vanity" pounds. Yeah, I may not be at risk for heart issues now, but I believe in being in shape and not living on the edge of it and preventing all of those things.  And yeah, its not what most people would chose to do and I wasnt saying that everyone should do it.  I simply put out the information for the ladies that wanted and were asking about it.  It is NOT for everyone. I do exercise and I am eating better.  And it is working for ME.  I talked to alot of people about it and made an informed decision before this was started. I put the information I had out for anyone who wanted to take it or leave it.
