My little guy came down with an ear infection this weekend and the doc prescribed prednisone in addition to amoxicillin. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I've been giving it to him, and he seems to be doing ok...he's a little more fussy than usual, but I've been a little more gassy than usual so I think that's the culprit anyway. My mom is a nurse and seemed surprised by the steroids. Have any of yours been sick yet? What did doc prescribe, and did you give it to them as directed?
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
Re: Babies who have had steroids/antibiotics prescribed...
Oh, has my LO been sick.... The first ear infection he had they gave him both of those. We're currently on our third set of antibiotics since they can't take the same ones over due to immunity. Currently he's having to do liquid oral steroids and with the nebulizer. I had to take them while I was pregnant so I'm expecting him to look like Barry Bonds soon lol.
I haven't noticed him being more gassy than normal but normal now for us is steroids. I would try some gas relief.
If I remember correctly, do don't quote me on this, but I think the doctor mentioned that the steroids are to help the airway/lungs. Typically, or at least in my little guy, if he gets a little cough, congestion, or anything, it turns into an ear infection. But that being said, we also have his breathing problems and acid reflux so I don't know if she's giving it for all of that or not. I know it won't hurt them because mine has been on it off and on for 6 weeks and he will be on it twice a day for sure for the next 6 weeks.
I hope some of that made sense and not a bunch of mumbo jumbo.
Thanks..I didn't clarify that he also had croup, which is what the steroids are really for.
I feel a little better knowing others have had the same thing and their babies are not crazy!
