Ladies who pump at work come in please...

I don't know what our "mother's room" looks like at work and won't get to until I start back at work on Wednesday but I'm guessing it's like a small closet with a chair (I work for the gov't).

What all do you bring with you every day? I'm afraid I'll forget something...Also, how long do you pump and how often?

  • I pump for 20-30 mins every 3 hours.  I pump in my office, but I use a carrying bag, a towel to bring the parts to the bathroom to wash them out, my nursing cover and something to do to pass the time.

Can you ask a coworker to check it out for you and let you know what the room looks like?

  • I pump in my cubicle or on the road. I take a few large bottles, nursing cover and pump. I usually pump every 3 hours. I pump about 3 oz from both sides, in an 8 oz bottle...keep it in my cubbard.  Then my next pump I fill it with another 3 oz, then put it in my cooler with an ice pack.

I wish, I have to go to HR and get the key to the room and then go to the room, that alone is going to take 5 minutes each way...and I have to fill out a form saying I'm a BFing mother...

  • I pump twice during an 8-hour shift for about 20-30 min and get about 18 oz total/day.  I take my pump, my hands-free bra, four bottles and my ice pack.  I play games on my iPhone to pass the time.  :):)
  • We have a fitness room at work that no one uses, so only me and another new mom co worker have access to it.

I bring my Medela PISA, 2 bottles, the parts that connect to the bottles (sorry can't remember what they are called), 2 LIDS for the bottles (one time I forgot it was horrible), and a little cooler pack that I put in the fridge when I'm done.

I usually only pump once as I'm in sales and don't have a ton of time.  I don't wash the parts until I get home.

  • If you are worried about forgetting something, buy a spare set of pump parts and bottles and keep them at work.  I have forgotten my pump parts a couple of times and it was AWFUL!  You aren't likely to forget your actual pump, but it's hard to remember the bazillion little pieces you need to go with it.  I don't know what pump you're using but at target you can get a Medela spare parts kit for like $25 and it has the shields, valves, tubes, bottles, etc . . . everything you need but the pump.
  • Another suggestion would be to get an extra set of parts. You would only have to remember your pump.

  • DH assembles my pump every morning.  I figure it's the least he can do since I have to lock myself in a cluttered storage closet 3 times a day.  I use a PISA, and keep the 4 bottles and icepack in the little storage container, my pump flanges in a dishtowel rolled up along side it, two hairbinders in a figure 8 for each flange (hook around the flange, then on my bra hooks. I keep my tubes in the front pocket with the power cord. I also use the quick clean wipes and just use one a day, keeping it in my cooler between uses.

DH cleans the parts when he does the bottles at night, and then in the morning restocks the pump.

I bring a book or papers to correct (I am a teacher). I would LOVE to have a laptop in there.  The more I think about how much I am getting, the less I get! I pump for 15 minutes a time and get around 5-6 oz a time. GL!

  • I pump 3x per day for 30 minute sessions - that includes set up and take down time each session.

I take 6 bottles (makes it easier than having to combine bottles etc.), my hands free bra, all the pump parts, a book, my iPod and my iPhone.  I like to listen to music on my iPod which helps me relax and also play games on my phone or read a book.

Another item which is essential for me is a short extension cord...I pump in a supply room which doesn't have any outlets very close to the table where I set my pump.
