Blood test to determine gender at 5 wks

Just read this on msnbc.com and thought it was really interesting. I'd love to find out the gender of my baby now!

    I'm all for finding out the sex of a baby, but finding out this early gives the opportunity for those who have a preferred gender to abort and try again until they get the gender they want.  I'm not okay with this.  This is another time when science is going a too far.

    i'm def. interested.... i wonder if my dr. would do this test? r any drs in the US doing it?

    Ditto MrsAmy! Willow, there are people that are so set on having a perferred sex they seperate sperm at home and give themselves IUI's. I wish I was joking, but I've seen the message board that goes along with it.

    I never thought of that!  Good point.  It is so sad to think somebody would abort a child because they didn't like the gender.  It makes me sick to my stomach.

    yea i would NEVER in my life abort just because of gender! (really, i wouldnt abort for any reason) that's sick. i just want to know so i can prepare everything even earlier! names and clothes and decorations and such. i might ask my dr about this test but judging by the article, i bet they don't do it in the US. but who knows!

    wow.

    have you seen/tried the pee on a (stick? i'm guessing) home test that tells you the baby's sex?  

    i can wait till 20 weeks or whenever it is but i do have to admit that i'm curious!

    I can't (or don't want to) fathom that there are more than a small handful of people out there who were TTC and would abort based on gender.  That is absurd.  Although I would strongly disagree with doing that, I do believe that people have the right to choose and I don't think that's a good reason not to offer the test.
