Just got back from colposcopy

And it really wasnr't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I didn't have to have a biopsy of my cervix thank god! I had to watch on a tv the dr poke around on my cervix though and I can't say that that was a very pleasant experience. But I made it through.

I got so worked up on the way there that when I got to the dr. my blood pressure was 150/100. He checked me again after the procedure and I went down to 126/88 which is better. I seriously freak out when Im going to the dr.s and something new or unknown is about to be done to me. Anyone have any suggestions on calming techniques, I have to stop getting so worked up! Glad it went well!

Crazy about your blood pressure. Unfortunately I have no advice on how to lessen the stress! I would be freaked out by that procedure, too!

My mom's blood pressure is really high when she is stressed too. I don't know much about relaxation methods but deep breathing and meditation might help. Writing works for me...plus a great massage from MH.

I'm glad you say this. I have a colpo scheduled for Jan. 11. I've had one in the past and don't remember much about it, so it couldn't have been that bad.

OP, I always like listening to some good jazz music on my way to appointments. It relaxes me and makes me happy.

If you have an iPod, load some guided meditiations, breathing exercises, or relaxing music on it and listed during the procedure.

I have had several also and never had one shown on a monitor. They do not hurt at all and I have had multiple biopsies and they did not hurt me at all either; but I did spot for a few days after the biopsy.

OP, my heart rate always raises before an appointment but I have never had it drastically affect my blood pressure. When I get stressed out I do deep breathing exercises.

I wish I could have watched mine! I'm glad to hear it all went well! I think something that would have calmed you is asking about it here who all has been through it and their experiences.

Ugh I had a few done as well. I hated the things. Unfortunately my doc wasn't as nice and it was not so pain free

Sorry you had to have a colpo.... I've had two and they are not fun. I had to have biopsies with both. I can't believe you had to watch! Yikes!! I don't think I would've made it through that. I have a very weak stomach though... and I have no calming advice, as I got really worked up before mine also. My doctor actually prescribed me a pill to take before my second one so I wouldn't be so nervous! Don't think it helped much though! LOL
