tummy time on floor vs. bed for plus size moms

I have a question for those who have difficulty getting up from the floor. I am an obese momma and don't do tummy time on the floor. I do it on my chest or on the bed. He has great neck control but am wondering if the bed is too soft for him to learn to scoot, roll over, or later on, crawl. Anyone else with issues of getting up off the floor? If I have to do it for my baby I will, it's just hard to have him in my arms and get up as well as picking him up after I get up. Please no flames, I just am curious since I struggle so much with my weight. I'm trying to work on it for my baby

  • I'm sure the bed is fine- just make sure you don't leave LO because a bed is much softer than the floor!

  • I think you are going to want to give him some tummy time on the floor.  If you stick only to the bed he might have trouble learning to roll over etc.  Because as you said the bed is much softer and a hard surface is needed for some things.

But I think most of his tummy time is fine on the bed.

  • You could also put him on a table and keep a hand on him. I think it's good for them to have a hard surface to push off of.
  • my daughter rolled over on the bed the first time, but once he starts scooting i'd move it to the floor. for safety as well as getting ready to crawl.   you can do it on the floor with a fun play mat so you don't have to get down to entertain him too. i have a bad back so i also try not to get down on the ground too often, getting up hurts! OR oh- good idea!- if you have a pack n play, toss the pnp mattress onto the bed to provide a firmer surface if your bed is too soft for him to get real tummy time in.
