3rd Trimester

advice you may not have heard yet

I flamed many gals on here that were worried about trimming their pubes prior to birth. How vain! right? WRONG!!!!

If you usually trim down there, keep at it. Actually, trim it even shorter if not off prior to birth. Between being cut, the hemmeroids,  wearing a pad for a month...etc, the hair got like 1970's afro bush long and actually became painful because it would get caught in my underwear, the pad...the blood! ouch!!!!!

  • You are right, I have *not* heard that advice! It makes perfect sense. Thanks!

  • I wondered about that, although I usually end up with ingrown hairs when I get waxed.  Which is the lesser of two evils?

  • I completely agree! Getting a wax towards the end of your pregnancy is going to hurt, hurt bad but it is worth it compared to being all hairy and having to deal with that after you have a baby. ESPECIALLY with all the bleeding after, you don't need it getting stuck in your hair. Great advice.

  • thanks for the advice! hadn't thought of that before! makes sense!
  • haha...I'm having DH shave me once a week, just to make sure that there are no strays around!

I would do it myself, but I can't seem to reach down there

    This

  • If you have issues with ingrowns, you can either clip the hair short with scissors (but that may be dangerous at this point), or get a cheap hairclipper set (<$20) and use that to cut the hair.

  • I know everyone thinks it silly, but it's totally been my plan to buzz it short right before the birth. I don't want to all out shave myself bald, cause that gets itchy when it's growing back out, but I'm too scared to wax!

After my m/c, I had to wear a pad, and because i was so miserable, grooming down there went out the window. I agree, it got to be a tangled mess with the blood and everything (sorry if tmi).

  • I wondered about this. I plan to cut super low with the aide of a mirror. Not sure I trust my DH.
  • Eww!  Makes sense, but I HATE thinking about the recovery "issues".

I have been keeping it tidy, just in case, for weeks now and will do until I go in to deliver.

  • shaving a part that hardly anyone ever sees is vain?!?! i'm pretty sure it's a personal choice...i've shaved it bare down there for years...it's still bare..will still be bare when LO comes popping out...not because I care what the doctors think, but I can still reach to shave, so why would I let it grow? It gets uncomfortable and itchy and IMO, I think its more sanitary to have it bare down there.

DH refuses to help me out, says he is afraid he will cut me. So I have to shift my belly out of the way so I can see what I am doing in the shower, and I end missing patches left and right and cutting myself in the process. I want to wax, but have never done it there before. The one time I had my eyebrows waxed, I broke out, and the thought of breaking out around my hooha skeeves me out.

  • I'm still doing it on my own thus far... Probably not well, but DH hasn't been much help in that department Stick out tongue
  • This occurred to me last week.

Alas, it was too late. Try as I might, I could not reach or see to do anything down there.

    Enter the Afro.

Bare creeps me out -- makes me feel pre-pubescent (sp?).  But I'll definitely start trimming more.  I'm not overly hairy, so I don't have to do much to keep it tidy, but even a little maintenance has been too difficult since the belly got really large.  Sigh.  I'll have to get back at it.

  • Its not "more sanitary" really, when you consider the natural purpose of pubic hair is to protect the vagina...but yeah, I don't like it bushy myself.  LOL!

And for those who can't see to shave anymore, get a pair of clippers and a mirror...its pretty easy to give yourself a buzz cut.  LOL!!

  • this for me too! i don't know if I would trust DH down there - not that he would do anything intentionally but I get nervous enough doing it myself!

  • I hear ya' and I have been keeping up with my regular Brazilian waxes all throughout.  I thought if there was ever a time to not stop it was now!
