WWYD- Regarding your DC being exposed to H1N1

So DS hasn't had his H1N1 shot...We go tomorrow for the first round and will get the 2nd in 4 weeks.  My DH's cousin just died from complications from H1N1 and MIL went to Alabama for the funeral.  Well DH's brother now has H1N1 and lives in the same town.  So it seems to be going around quite alot there.  We are supposed to go to MIL's this weekend for Christmas.  Would you take DS and risk being exposed (I have had my shot)....Even if she is not sick she could still get sick or still be carrying it right?  I really don't feel comfortable risking it but don't want to sound crazy either.  WWYD?

TIA!

Re: WWYD- Regarding your DC being exposed to H1N1

  • I'd make a game time decision, but be sure to let them know beforehand that you might not be able to make it.  If she doesn't get sick by Wednesday, she probably won't get sick.   I don't think you'd be crazy to be cautious.  Good luck with your decision.

BTW, DS had H1N1 and got tamiflu.  Wed kept him hydrated and kept his fever regulated with tylenol/motrin.  It wasn't horrible.  In fact, the sinus infection that he just got over was worse for him.

Everything will be okay with whatever decision you make.

  • My DH had H1N1 for a couple days before we knew what it was, so ds was exposed a lot. As soon as we found out we got him the shot, and he never got sick. I would get the shot if your dr. has it. Ours said they didnt have it available, but when we called and told them ds had been exposed, they said they had a small amount for those situations. GL!!

  • Thank you so much for the response.  I think the game time decision is a good idea!  I think that DH's cousin dying has just got me worked up about h1n1 again.
  • ok, I read your question wrong. I would still go. Hopefully MIL has sense to wash her hands etc. He should be ok with the shot, esp if MIL hasnt had symptoms yet.
