Pregnant after a Loss

Glucose tolerance test today...

So I have been reading other posts and some people say that they had to fast for 12 hours...other saying they were told to stay away from sweets for a week.

I am going this afternoon and this morning have already had some cookies and hot cocoa...should I reschedule my test until tomorrow morning?

Re: Glucose tolerance test today...

  • I'm going in for mine tomorrow morning. All they told me to do was fast for 4 hours before hand. I've been trying to avoid sweets for the past couple of days, but that hasn't gone too well. I love to bake around Christmas :)

  • You should just go today, the 1 hour test is supposed to be random.  The cookies and cocoa might skew your results, but the worst is that you have to go for the 3 hour (which I think you do need to fast for, but I could be wrong).  Before my 1 hour, I just had a breakfast high in protein and nixed the oj and my results were fine.
  • There are different tests. If your doctor did not give you specific directions to fast, you should eat normally. You will be fine.

  • For the 1 hour test, you don't need to fast.  Just stay away from sugars till the test.  I didn't get that message and had a muffin and a coffee with cream and sugar in the car on the way to the test (finished it on my walk in). I failed the 1 hour by a point...... so take my advice and don't do that!

4 hours is plenty of time for your body to go down to normal.

You have to fast for the 3 hour.

  • I'm taking mine in two weeks and they gave me the glucose drink to take home and refrigerate.  The nurse told me to eat breakfast (nothing too sugary), wait 2 hours and then finish the drink in 5 mins.  Wait an hour and have my blood drawn.
