I am backwards from you I have done the bottles but not the pacifiers. I heard they send you home from the hospital with a pacifier so figured wasn't a big deal if I didn't have the ones at home ready. I did my bottles/nipples over a month ago. I figure he is going to want to eat probably as soon as we get home since we have an hour drive so I should have them on stand by.
Um, no way. I'm trying to make it through the week in one piece. I'll be BF'ing anyway. Besides, they just need a quick rinse with hot, soapy water and they are fine.
this might be extremely stupid but what exactly do you do to sterilize them?? I assume it is different than just washing them??
Put them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes. On the pack of Paci's that what it says to do anyways...havent checked the bottles. But my friend who has a 10 month old boiled her bottles before she used them. After that you can just wash them.

Not yet although I'm planning to BF and hopefully won't need bottles for a few weeks (for DH to do some feedings).
Same here- I just went to my BF class and the nurse told us we should try to avoid bottle feeding until 4-6 weeks, the ideal time to introduce a bottle (if you are BF). She also said to hold off on the pacifiers for a little while until baby gets used to nursing.
Pacis - good call. I need some of those! Anyway, no bottles even gotten down from the attic yet, but my boobs are set to go. I do pump eventually (starting around 3 weeks or so) but not at first anyway.
ETA - You also may want to re-sterilize them or at least re-wash them when your LO gets here anyway.
I plan to BF so hopefully will not need bottles for at least 2 weeks.
I plan to sterilze right before use. I don't think they remain sterilzed for an indefinate amount of time. Also - a previous poster mentioned only sterilizing before first use and then just washing after that. I plan to sterlize the bottles after each use. So basically I will be sterilizing a batch of bottles each night (only once a day). That is how everyone that I know has done it.

Nah, I'm going to wait a while, don't plan on using bottles for a while anyway, I plan on breastfeeding exclusively at first.
When I do sterilize, my doctor said the dishwasher was a way better way to sterilize then boiling water, it cleans them just fine!
Forgot about pacifiers, I just opened the pack and stuffed them in the baby's hospital bag! Oops!
