Called the surgery scheduler...question...

I called at 8:30 this morning when they opened and had to leave her a message. I still have not eaten since I am not sure if they will reschedule me for today or not - have not drank anything either.

I am wondering if I should call back at 9:30 or just be patient...

I know this is a silly question but I am not thinking rationally at this point - I have been given a lot of confusing info from the nurses and my doc thus far.

  • I'm not trying to be mean or anything but if you are saying that they need a NICU to be open and you've been talking about having the c-section today for weeks, maybe this is a sign that it isn't for the best.  Babies born at 36 weeks can have breathing problems, regulating temperature problems and jaundice.  I understand you are having some bp issues but from what I saw thre was no mention of pre-e.

  • I hear what you are saying. My doc is concerned that if they do need a NICU they will have to be transported so he wants to be better safe than sorry.

My b/p was really high for me and they have me watching for signs of pre-e at home - I have been on strict bedrest since Saturday. My doc wanted to delivery me today b/c of my massive swelling and b/p - he thinks it may be the beginning of pre-e.

I am okay waiting it out and staying in bed - but their communication with me has really sucked and they are giving me mixed messages (and not talking to each other).

  • i hope they call you back soon. i can't imagine not eating or drinking anything! (well, i can, i mean. i was SOOOO thirsty during my c/s because i hadn't had anything since midnight the night before. that sucked!)

  • I would definitely call back to find out if you can eat and drink! And honestly in the meantime I would go ahead and at least drink a little something. Or at least have some ice chips. ;) Because it sounds like it's not going to be today.

  • I went through the same crap. It won't hurt to drink a little. Good luck!

Not entirely true.  The reason for the no eat/drink rule is because you could aspirate if they have to put you under (or even if they don't, and you're simply sedated or what-not).

    I'd call back.
