S/O dairy free

Is that something you choose to cut out of your diet or is it something the pedi. will ask you to do. DD is not fussy at all but is sooooo gassy. Literally farting every 5 min. if not more. and we have about 10 poopy diapers a day shoud I ask the pedi. about it?

Re: S/O dairy free

  • Pedi mentioned to try cutting it out to see if that's the cause of his gas and extra poops and fussiness when trying to poop.

I knew something was up because my DD didn't have anything like that. He seems to be very uncomfortable when he's gassy. Mylicon drops weren't helping at all.

  • I'm trying it to see if that helps my gas, her gas and her fusiness.

  • If your LO isn't having trapped gas and tummy aches I don't see why you'd need to do it.  Henry used to poop 10 times a day and farted all the time.  The pedi said gas that comes out isn't bad.

  • I choose dairy free from the start because both DH and I are Mediterranean decent and lactose allergy runs in the family. I had colic and severe milk allergy as a baby and DH was allergic to milk and still is lactose intolerant. It is more common among people who are from the Mediterranean region.

I also discussed it with a ped before DD was born and they suggested I stay away from all dairy (except butter and very little egg) because of the protein intolerance. She said lactose-free dairy will also cause a similar response but soy should be fine.

I had a little cheese after she was born to test it and she cried in pain for hours. It was horrible and nothing soothed her! Since then she hasn't had any day compared to that one day and I only use mylicon at night because for whatever reason she has more gas at night and it wakes her up!

  • I was told my the pedi to cut dairy out, among other things, b/c DD's stools were super liquidy...moreso than a normal BF baby.  Also, she had a day where there was some mucus in her diaper, which means irritated tummy.  The amount of gas she has, did go down significantly.  Which means less fussing.
