Happy happy baby song

What do you guys sing when your babies need soothing?

For me, the only thing that really works (almost instantly) is a sort of tuneless, repetitive ditty I call "the happy happy baby song."

It goes:

Happy, happy baby

sweet, sweet baby;

Funny, funny baby

Pretty, pretty baby;

I just keep going, replacing the adjectives with anything I can think of.  I tried regular lullabys, real songs, humming, but this was the winner.

What about you?

  • Aaron soothes to "Ssshhhing" sounds, actually.

    I just rock him and go "Husssssh" and "Ssssshhh".

    Though I will sing to him.  He really likes "I've Been Working on the Railroad" (when he's awake/fussy) or just when I make up songs (tired/fussy).

  • Either the ABC song or Old MacDonald.  Charlie seems to like the animal noises.

    Hubby constantly sings to him, too.  Lots of Christmas carols right now, along with some rather salty sea shanties from our favorite band, Great Big Sea.  Songs about pirates and sailors and naughty girls and rum, etc.

  • I rub Callies head and do alot of shhhhing and I also also sing a silly song

    Callie rosey I love your little nosey..she smiles when I say that!

  • We have a few. One is:

    (sung to the tune of "This Little Light of Mine")

    This little love bug... is Mommy's little love bug;

    Oh, this little love bug... is Mommy's little love bug;

    This little love bug... is Mommy's little love bug;

    Love bug, love bug, love bug.

    Our other favorite:

    (sung to the tune of B-I-N-G-O)

    You are my little baby boy and Caleb is your name-o,

    C-A-L-E-B, C-A-L-E-B, C-A-L-E-B, and Caleb is your name-o!

    My sister jokes that he's going to get kicked out of Sunday school and be so confused when he hears the real versions of these songs!

  • I will sing songs to familiar tunes, but make up the words as I go along

  • I try not to sing to her - my horrible singing may harm her for life...Tongue Tied  But in the dead of night, when we're all alone, sometimes I hum a soft lullabye type song which will usually calm her down.  DH sings the Scooby Doo song and it gets a smile every time.
  • DD loves it when DH sings Ole McDonald.  She thinks she can repeat the sounds, so cute!

  • SHHHHHHHHing works well for M also.

    My favorite songs to sing is You Are My Sunshine (both verses), Itsy Bitsy Spider and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

    I sang these to my boys too and when Nate was about 3 we were at the mall with my mom around Christmas time and he burst out with both verses of You Are My Sunshine to the delight of my mom and all the little grandma's in the line with us at the food court.

    I also sing (poorly): Christmas songs, Popcorn Popping ont he Apricot Tree, The World is so Big, In the Leafy Tree Tops, Bingo, ABC's, Old McDonald, Winnie the Pooh (with made up words).

  • I do showtunes.  Keira's favorite song for me to sing to her is "Fine White Horse" from the musical The Secret Garden.  It used to work like magic and make her stop crying and fussing immediately when she was younger.  Now, it works sometimes -- I actually had to bust it out when we were taking her 1 year photos, because she started losing it when it was time for outfit #2.

    When I used to nurse/rock her to sleep, I sang "Tell Me On A Sunday," by Andrew Lloyd Weber (why I picked a break up song, I don't know) "The Girl I Mean to Be" from The Secret Garden, and "Frank Mills" from Hair every night.  It almost never took more than three songs.

  • We are big on the Christmas songs right now.  and Bob Marley is always a soother - thank goodness I know all the words.
  • Sung to the tune of "Goodnight Sweetheart"

    Me: Goodnight sweet Matthew it's time to sleep

    DH: Doh doh du do dum

    Me: Goodnight sweet Matthew it's time to sleep

    DH: Doh doh du do dum

    Me: We had a fun day now it's time it ends

    Both: Goodnight sweet Matt goodnight

    DITTO! Amy, I am going to have to sing this to Jace! As of now, I just make up random songs. I am a horrendous singer but he hasn't figured that out quite yet. :)
