So, yesterday we went to the family Chanukah party at my ILs. Of course, we're not well liked over there and we remembered our pleases and thank yous, but I cannot believe two of the gifts that were purchased -- or not -- for Jacob.
MIL bought my son who has no teeth a tooth fairy pillow because it was cute! Great, I can hang onto that until he's 6 in my unlimited storage unit.
Then BIL's gf's mother gave him the Fisher Price ring stacker. Very nice except for one thing, there's no packaging, no plastic, no cardboard, no nothing. And I know how this comes packaged because we gave it to Jacob two nights earlier. She used to own a day care center that closed in October, if I had to guess it came from there. I appreciate the thought and all and I don't mind used things from people I know, but to give it as a gift just seems tacky.
So either I'm being ungrateful or they're both just crazy!
Re: I must be ungrateful (or other people are crazy)
pillow - not tacky
used toy that goes in child's mouth - tacky.
My cousins give us toys for Jake all the time that their kids have used. But we know them and they're not gifts.
P.S. I love your son's name. It's DHs too.
Pillow is pretty common. DD has had one since 6 months or so.
The rings, if they looked new, she may have bought them from a daycare supply and they might not come in the same packaging, or she could also have bought them in bulk. If the toy was clearly used, then that is a different matter, but if it looked new, but the packaging was just not there, then whatever. I hope that the amazon hassel free packages catch on because I think all that stuff is a big waste.
I'm guilty of the pillow thing. Yes, I'm sure they will still be around by the time he starts to lose teeth but I saw it in a children's store and I had to buy it. Shrugs. I put it in his keep sake box that is in his room. It's a tiny pillow - I don't think it requires a big old storage system LMAO
I guess it depends on your family and what their ability is. I mean, I know that my extended family have very little to give and so I appreciate their sentiment. Perhaps, a used toy was the best gift they could provide your LO.
You asked so I say, you're being ungrateful.
