Random question for those who have had c/s

Did they let you keep your contact lenses in? I've talked to some who said they were allowed to keep them in. They made me take mine out which I did not like. I know the point is in case they need to put you under general anesthesia emergently...but still. I'm tempted to lie this time and say I'm not wearing any.

  • I think I was already wearing my glasses at the time.  I don't really remember.

  • I wasn't supposed to wear mine, but they totally forgot. So I wore mine for the c/s.
  • I had my contacts in when I was being induced.  When it was time for my c-section they didn't make me take out my contacts.  I actually don't think anyone even asked.
  • I had contacts in.  I asked the nurses before they took me in if I needed to take them out, and they said no.

Yeah, they let me wear my glasses but I hate them and I just find them annoying. I'd rather wear my contacts!

  • #1 was sort of emergency and they asked me to take them out.

#2 was planned and they told me to not wear them.

It is obvious to see if someone is wearing them so lying is not a great idea.

  • Yes, I wore my contacts for both c/s.  They never even asked if I was wearing them.

In fact, I ran it by my ob when another nestie gave me her list of things she wasn't allowed (make-up, deoderant, contacts) and my ob just laughed.

Seriously? Who would tell a mom not to wear deodorant to a c/s?

That's true, I didn't really think of that. I forgot it's easy to tell. I'll just ask my doc to let me keep them in I guess.

  • I told my OB I wanted to see my kid, and in an emergency, I would take them out and toss them on the floor... in 4 seconds.
    She finally agreed!

I know, right?  I've never heard of it outside of the one post from a nestie friend.

  • I had mine on, I forgot that I was wearing them and I was already on the table when I remembered.
  • Yes they let me keep mine in. I even asked to make sure it was allowed. It would suck to have to wear glasses

  • Nope. I had to take them out. I even asked if I could keep them in while I was laboring (before we knew c/s was needed) and they said no, just in case something would happen.

  • I had an unplanned c-section after 18 hours of labor and I kept my contact in.  They never even asked me if I wore contacts.
