This is a VERY abbreviated story of what actually happened, but it's all I have time for. I was induced on Thursday morning but it was very slow going, contractions but they weren't making much progress. The next morning I woke up to the doc breaking my water which immediately sent me into hardcore contractions. After a little while they were pleased but wanted to augment it with Pitocin. This further intensified contractions. I declined pain management medications and chose to breath through contrax, use positioning, and labored in the tub for a LONG time. After many hours of very hard med-free labor, I was still only dilated to 6cm. I tried to labor but was then given an epidural and taken down for a C-section. They determined that she was stuck and there wasn't going to be another option (I had already tried lots of positioning that would allow her to move).
Cora Nicole was born on December 18th at 5:41pm. She was 5lbs, 11oz, 19 1/2 inches. She is so precious and I am completely in love with her.
I was only able to see her for about 10 seconds and then they had to rush away her since she was having trouble breathing. When I left recovery and was able to go to my postpartum room I was informed that there are some problems with her heart and needed to be transported to a nearby hospital that had specialists and tests that she needed to undergo. It was the absolute hardest moment of my life watching these strangers take away my baby girl. I wasn't even able to move or hold her since I has just got out of a c-section and was numb from my chest down.
Cora is now in the NICU and is a tough little lady. I was able to get discharged today (about 15 hours after my c-section) in order to be with my baby girl. We tried feeding but with all of her tubes, monitors, and an IV in her arm, it was difficult to position. I am pumping at home and will be working with feeding again tomorrow. She was super interested and loved the boob...hopefully that love only grows and we can get the hang of this feeding thing.
