I love the name Joshua. I know it's rather common, and, according to the SSA, has been popular for many years, but what do you think? Like it? Hate it? Too popular? Not all that popular? Personally, I don't know any children under 5 with the name, and I never see it on this board. The ranking on the SSA list is a turn off for me, but no matter how many other names I entertain, I keep coming back to this one!
Middle name would be Douglas (a family name).
Re: Thoughts on the name Joshua
Joshua seems not that common to me- i don't hear that many 'josh's' around...so i think you are safe in terms of popularity.
Joseph is another option or...Jackson, Jake (jacob)....i love Jake.
I have bad associations with the name - my first boyfriend/kiss was an awful boy named Joshua, and it also always makes me think of that Raffi song, "Joshua Giraffe - hoo! hoo! Joshua! Joshua!" haha
That being said - I STILL love the name!
I teach a kid NAMED Joshua Douglas. He's a very nice boy. Douglas is his last name though. haha.
I like the name though. It's a cute name and even though it is common, I wouldn't NOT use it because of that.
I like it. It's a nice, NORMAL name.
eta: Both your son's will have the same middle name?
I really like the name Joshua. Most I know are 20+. I can't really think of any young children I know with the name.
I think Joshua and Phillip are the same "style", so I think it would be perfect!

Thanks for your input, ladies!
Yes, if we have another boy, his middle name will be Douglas. It's DH's grandfather and father's name, and DH and DS's middle name, also (DS is named after DH). So, because DS1 is named after DH, I want our second son to feel "included" by giving him the "family" middle name.
Joshua Douglas sounds very nice. And pairs well with Phillip.
I only know one little Joshie; he's DH's cousin and was one of our ring bearers.
PS I don't recommend the nn Joshie. Josh seems to be good enough to me.
This. And I know no young Joshuas so I am surprised to hear it is ranked high on the SSA list. Nice name.
I'm married to a Joshua so I love it!
I think it's classic but not uber-popular.
No more baby siggie pics. Boo.
