How do you feel about TV during dinner?

It is a huge no no for my family. What about yours?

Re: How do you feel about TV during dinner?

  • Yuck. What's the point? I think dinner should be about quality family time, not TV.

  • There are nights we eat in front of the TV. There are others where we eat together as a family. Depends on what we're eating "pizza and movie night" for example.

  • It's a no, unless DD can not wait for dinner to be done and eats something else. Then sometimes DH and I will eat dinner in bed and watch a little tv after she goes to bed. That'll end soon enough, though.
  • Definitely not with DD. DH & I will do it on occasion.

  • When our kids are old enough to have conversation we'll have dinner at the table.  For now, my DH and I don't even eat when my DD eats.  And we eat in front of the tv.

Every 3rd night I'm by myself anyway.

  • Once we move into our new place this summer, the tv will go. I grew up eating with my family and we talked about our day. RIght now, Dragon Tales is on during DD's dinner and she enjoys the music. So, for now, it is ok.

    same here.

We try to do the "family dinner at the table" thing during the week depending on his schedule.

  • I should say I have a different outlook because of DHs boys. Like at his parents their TV is always on and when we stay there no one talks during meals and the boys are like zombies, I have to keep reminding them to eat. Luckily here our dining room is no where near the TV. So everyone talks and jokes around during meals. I see the way the boys are when they watch TV and eat and I hate it. Even for pizza we are at the dining room table all together.
  • We do it. ::shrug:: But the three of us eat together, and I think that's what I care about most.

  • Brock eats between 5and 5:30. DH and I eat together when he gets home from work which is after Brock is already in bed. We usually eat around 8 or so. We eat in front of the tv. But we are talkers. So the tv doesnt interfere. Once Brock is old enough to chat and stay up until his daddy gets home, we will eat at the table.
  • Nope, not for family dinner. But sometimes DH and I get take out after the kids are in bed and watch tv or a movie while we eat.
  • Most times Zoe eats before us so we let her watch one of her shows. But if we are sitting at the same time, then there is music on, no TV.

  • If my dining room table is clear (rare) we eat without a tv.  Usually it is just DS and me in the kitchen at the breakfast bar.  The tv is usually on when I am preparing the meal so it often stays on.  Usually sprout.  This won't be an option when we remodel though so it will be a good way to break the habit.
  • Our table is in the kitchen, which is RIGHT next to the living room. Our TV is usually on, (even during dinner, but we turn it down) but when we all eat together at the table we talk and don't pay attention to it.

  • The tv is on sometimes, but I would prefer it be off. I always grew up with the tv on at meals and we were like zombies staring at it.

  • DD eats dinner at 5 in the dining room not near a TV. DH and I eat dinner after she goes to bed  (she's in bed by 6pm )and almost all the time in front of the TV. We're trying to get into the habit of eating at the table for when DD starts to eat when we do.
