Flu or morning sickness?

I am 7 weeks pregnant right now. I have had HORRIBLE morning sickness that began at the end of week 5. It's all day and all night. This was how my last pregnancy was too. I am barely able to make it out of bed to make meals for my 18 month old.

My "morning sickness" turned ugly last night. I vomited every 15/20 minutes from 8pm to 5am. That parts over but I still can't eat, I am drinking gatorade. I can't move at all because I get too nauseaus. Last time I was pregnant I got the flu at 7 weeks pregnant too. I ended up in the ER because I never got over it. I became extremely dehydrated and just never got better.

So I am now wondering if this is the stomach flu or just how I deal with pregnancy. I want to ride this out til tomorrow and see how I feel before I call my doctor. I am making a lot of effort to stay hydrated since that is what got me so bad last time.

Any opinions? My husband and I thought we would have one more after this one but now I am questioning if I can handle another pregnancy - especially with 2 little ones.

Has anyone else had such a weakened immune system during pregnancy that they can't handle it?

  • I don't really have any advice, I just wanted to say I'm sorry you feel so awful. :(

  • I am sorry.  I had a couple nights like that when I was about 7 weeks also.  It was horrible.

I am still taking zofran for my morning sickness.  It is giving my horrible constipation, but at least I am functioning and can play with DS again.

  • Do you have a fever or any other symptoms? That sounds a lot like my m/s. But I'd call your OB now either way. I waited with my first pregnancy and ended up in the hospital with IVs in me for a day. With this pregnancy I called the first day I couldn't hold anything down and skipped over the whole IV thing. I'm so glad I didn't wait it out this time. The meds help so much.

  • I was going to suggest talking to your doc about a perscription for diclectin, but apparently it is only available to Canadians. It saved me from horrid M/S when i was PG with Madi
