High-Risk Pregnancy

cerclage today

Hi ladies,

Hope you are getting to enjoy the holidays and you are not in a bad snowstorm.

I am going in tonight for my cerclage, very nervous about it.   But my cervix went down again to 2.3 cm....Just had my last meal at noon, procedure is scheduled for 8 pm tonight.

Any advice, thoughts and prayers would all be appreciated.

I am staying the night at the hospital and was told they would do the procedure under anesthesia.....thought it would be epidural???

Thanks ladies, so glad to have you all here.

Re: cerclage today

  • I had a cerclage a month ago under general anesthesia. I heard most girls on here saying they had spinals, but mine was general. Actually I am glad mine was general because I heard some say they felt tugging during the procedure and difficulty peeing after due to the spinal block.

The checked the heartbeat before and after and were very reassuring about general anesthesia and the baby. Just ask any questions you have about that!

The procedure is very short and I had minimal cramping or bleeding afterward. bleeding and cramping is common afterward. Since you are further along and there will naturally be more pressure, you may have more, but it is natural and common.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. Good luck to you!

  • thank you for the reply!  you made me feel better :)  did you stay the night for yours or did you get to go home?  Did you have any pain after?

    Do you feel any different?

thanks you and best wishes for your continued pregnancy.

  • Mine was an inpatient procedure.

    I didn't have pain, just light cramping/twinging.

I feel the twinging very occassionally now. But overall I feel no different. I do feel emotionally better knowing I have the cerclage in place though!

best wishes to you for your surgery. please come back and post an update!

  • Thank you so much!  Will write tomorrow when I get home :)
