DD was an April baby so we did not have much of the winter issue.. but keeping a newborn warm in February is begining to freak me out. When you go outside do you load up on the blankets... we are not fans of the carseat covers because they are not recommended by our friendly police officer who puts in the car seat.. so what else do you do?And what about inside... no blankets - do you swaddle? What if they don't like being swaddled??
Re: XP: Keeing Newborn Warm in the Winter
we put a blanket over him once buckled in the carseat. He's always dressed warm. Then we add a flannel blanket that covers the entire carseat just when we go from house to car and back.
In the house we just keep socks on him or footie clthes. A blanket if need be, but with the house at 70 he seems fine.
We got this for the car seat:

We swaddle @ night....I use gloves (mittens) for cold hands, and wear layers.
DS wears these Sleep bags at night. They are fleece.
We warm up the car, put his coat on (not one of those snow jump suits) and then have a blanket all over him. Between all that and his clothes (we make sure he has everything on including socks and sneekers) he's always warm.
Here's a pic without the blanket that gets piled right on top
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo (06.06.13)
I also have one of these. Babies only need to wear as much as you are wearing and a blanket. They overheat very easily.
So I put LO in her coat and use the above carseat cover. Once she's buckled I put a blanket on her lap (her coat is not a full body coat). And that's it. The cover has a flap that closes to keep the elements from her face.
Good luck!
My DS LOVES these, he is still not quite sure the purpose of pant legs! So this keeps him nice and warm and you can layer as needed?
