lol sounds like your neighbors have nothing better to do. i feel like shoveling once, when it's done, is enough work!
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
Ohmylord my dad used to make the whole family get out and shovel every hour or two so that it wouldn't pile up and get too heavy. INSANITY! I used to dread snowstorms. I thought he was the only whacko who did that.

Depends on the storm. If it's a lot of heavy snow, I think you wind up spending the same amount of time shoveling if you shovel 2 or 3 times versus waiting 'til the end. But doing it 2 or 3 times makes for easier shoveling each time.
If it's going to ice at the end, then we wait.

I guess I am one of those who has nothing better to do . I know THIS is not true. I have done it twice since 6am. If we waited till it was done and tried to shovel 2 feet of snow by hand??? THAT is insanity. This way it only takes me 5-10m. The last storm we had 22" it took us 3 hours to shovel out. So shovel 3-4 times for 5-10m or 3 hours...hmmm...
Growing up (in VT) we'd shovel a couple times over the course of a big snowstorm, for the reasons mentioned (if you let it pile up it gets really heavy and is much more work). But, there it snows like once a week, so doing a massive shoveling isn't in the cards - it's just easier to do it that way.
Here (in MD) it snows so infrequently that when we do shovel we'll just do it at the end. Although, usually we just drive our SUV back and forth over our driveway to pack it down. Man, I've gotten really lazy :-P
Multiple times (depending upon how fast it's coming down)...but we have a steep driveway. If it doesn't get kept up with, then it turns to ice and we can't get up our driveway.
It depends on how big the storm is. If there's going to be a lot of heavy snow it's easier to do it a couple times. DH does most of the shoveling though so it gets done as many times he feels are necessary.
Re: snow: do you shovel once or multiple times during a storm?
OMG, my dad did this to us too. it was the worst.
This.
