Hey everyone, I mostly just lurk on here, but decided I would share a condensed birth story, since I know I loved reading them!
Hayden Noel was born on December 16, 2009 at 12:01 PM weighing 6 lbs. 14 oz.! She is perfect in every way, and we are happy as ever! We weren't expecting her this early, I was due on the 23rd of December. I went in for my 39 week appointment where my midwife was going to try and strip my membranes. I went in and she checked me and I was 1 cm dilated, but she thought she could get in there anyways and "stir things up". Well, after a TON of pain and a few seconds she was finished and she pulled her arm out as I felt a very large gush of warm liquid running down me! She was shocked and let us know that it was okay, but she broke my water and I would be having our baby girl sometime tonight or tomorrow! DH and I were shocked and nervous...we were not expecting to be going to the hospital shortly after our appointment.
We went home since the midwife said that we had about 4 hours before we needed to be in the hospital since I needed to be started on antibiotics due to GBS. I got a shower, packed up all the necessary things that I had left to pack and got our furbaby situated for the night.
We got to the hospital around 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening and were in a room by about 7:15. They got me all changed, started my IV and all that good stuff and by that time I was starting to contract on my own at regular intervals so they didn't start me on anything other than my antibiotics. About an hour later, my contractions started to get farther apart, so they started me on Pitocin. They increased my rate every half hour while I walked around the halls and sat on the birthing ball. At about 2:30 AM Wednesday morning, my contractions were making me shake and I felt as if I was losing control of my body due to the pain and exhaustion so I got the epidural and it was WONDERFUL! They didn't check my cervix before I got the epidural since my water had already been broke and they didn't want to increase the chance for infection. Around 4 AM, they decided to check my cervix to see the progress that it had made while on the pitocin. I was still at 1 cm!
I thought for sure that I would not be having this baby vaginally.
But, they kept up with the pitocin and once the rate was up, baby girl's heart rate was decreasing after each contraction. I was put on oxygen and fluids and they eventually decided to turn the pitocin off for awhile. In the end, they started the pitocin back up at a slow rate and we waited it out with close monitoring on the baby. I was checked again around 9 AM Wednesday morning, and to my surprise, and everyone else's, I was 7 cm! I was very excited because that meant no c section for me!! At around 11 AM I was fully dilated with no cervix present..I started to push shortly after and only pushed for about 30 minutes until our baby girl was out and in my arms! It was the most unreal experience I have ever been through, and I can honestly say it wasn't that bad. I didn't tear at all, just had a "skid mark" going towards my urethra and some hemmorhoids. Breastfeeding is going great, just waiting on my milk to come in, and so glad to be home! Overall I had a very good experience and am so happy to have my baby girl in my arms!!
