I know this sounds really stupid, but since I've had my twins, which are fraternal, I've noticed that there are a lot of twins that are so strikingly similar-looking, but are not identical. My boys look very similar, so I"m just wondering...is there such a thing as "almost" identical or is it just that they look so much alike because they are brothers and are the same age? I mean, my boys have the same calicks in their hair and both have a really funky eye color (that is neither mine nor DH's). Just wondering if there's a biological reason or if it's just coincidence. thanks...
Re: "Almost" Identical?
they're either identical or not. i can't see your pictures (stupid work!) but how do you know they're fraternal? if it's because they were di/di, then they could absolutely still be identical. or have you had DNA testing done?
the only way to know is DNA testing.
but they could just look alike because they're brothers. lots of siblings look a lot alike.

the only way to know 100% that they are fraternal is to have DNA testing done (or if they have different blood types)... even with 2 placentas, a membrane between them, etc - you can never know without the testing if their blood is the same.
fraternals have the same chance of looking alike as any siblings do --- and think about it- some siblings years apart look a LOT alike- so it can happen that they are fraternal but still look like ID twins. I have a friend who's daughter and son look almost identical - the girl is really petite (and older) and the son is really big - so they are almost the same size- and literally have the SAME face. They both suck the SAME fingers, too- when they are in the SBS stroller- you'd think they were twins... granted, b/c they are b/g you wouldn't say ID twins- but if they were the same sex you'd think they were ID!
My boys look NOTHING alike- and their blood types are different. If they looked similar and had the same blood type- i'd have them tested.
honestly, your boys look identical to me. If you haven't had their DNA tested I think it is worth doing!
My sons are identical (they were mono/di, sufferered twin-twin transfusion syndrome and it was proven by DNA test), but they really don't look a lot alike. They have COMPLETELY different facial expressions, mannerisms, voices and there is almost a 5 lb size difference between them.
They look identical to me. They are so cute!
I have the same issue, my boys look very much alike, I think they are identical, they also have the same blood type which is another indication.
